SPECIAL PARKING NEEDS

TEMPORARY VEHICLE PARKING PERMIT

University of Mary Washington recognizes that, at various times, faculty, staff, and students will need to obtain a Temporary Vehicle Parking Permit dash pass when they use another vehicle on the College of Arts and Science Fredericksburg Campus from another campus or property. For occasions when the registered vehicle needs repairs, or when a vehicle will only be on campus for a short time, a Temporary Parking Permit can be obtained from the University Police Department. Temporary Vehicle Parking Permits are obtainable 24 hours every day, year round. Temporary Vehicle Parking Permit shall be displayed at all times on the driver's side of the vehicle on the dashboard and must be visible from the outside.

 

VISITORS DOING BUSINESS WITH THE UNIVERSITY

Visitors are contractors, vendors, dignitaries, candidates for interviews having business with the University and require parking for a short period of time. Visitors must obtain a Temporary Vehicle Parking Permit from the University Police Department located at Brent Hall om the Colege of Arts and Scienses Fredericksburg Campus.

 

GUESTS/VISITORS OF A UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

.A student having guest/visitors, which includes friends and family members, are classified as University guests/visitors and not allowed to park spaces marked for' VISITORS," but may park in designated parking lots for students after obtaining proper parking permit. Guests/Visitors of University students will need to obtain a Temporary Vehicle Parking Permit from the University Police Department located at Brent Hall on the College of Arts and Sciences Fredericksburg Campus. This will enable the guests/visitors to park in the designated student parking areas in which the University student host would park. The University student is responsible for complying with the Office of Residence Life Guest/Visitor Policy. Students are required to accompany their guests/visitor to the University Police Department and produce a University ID before a Temporary Vehicle Parking Permit can be issued. Students are responsible when having guests/visitors to advise them of University's "Motor Vehicle Policy and Regulations". Students are responsible for parking infractions of their guests/visitor.

 

STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL PARKING NEEDS

Students who have state issued handicapped hangtags or license plates are required to pay the parking decal fee and register their vehicle with the University. Students who do not have state issued handicapped hangtags or license plates, but who need to use handicapped parking spaces on College of Arts and Sciences Fredericksburg Campus for long-term disabilities, must contact the Disability Services Office located in 209 GW Hall, phone (540) 654-1266. Students with short-term disabilities must contact the Dean of Student Life, Marye House, phone (540) 654-1200. Students must present documentation from a physician that supports their request. The Office of Disability Services or the Dean of Student Life will notify the University Police and the student if their request has been approved. The student may then pick up his/her special parking permit from the Emergency Communication Office located at Brent Hall on the College of Arts and Sciences Fredericksburg Campus. Students with handicapped parking permits (state issued license plate / hangtag and University issued hangtags) may park in any legal parking space on campus, except for those reserved for service vehicles; however, every effort should be made to park in handicapped spaces. FACULTY AND STAFF WITH SPECIAL PARKING NEEDS

Faculty/Staff who have state issued handicapped hangtags or license plates are required to register their vehicles and obtain parking decals from the University Police. Faculty/Staff who do not have state issued handicapped hangtags or license plates, but who need to use handicapped parking spaces on campus are to make their request to the Police Chief. Police Chief can be contacted at the University Police Department a Division of Public Safety & Community Service, located at Brent Hall , phone (540) 654-1025. Faculty/Staff must present documentation from their physician that supports the request for either long-term or short-term disability conditions. Once approved, the special parking permit can be picked up at the University Police Department.

 

EVENT PARKING AND TOWING

Special functions and events during the academic year will require parking to be restricted for short periods of time in various areas. Signs will be posted in advance for proper notification by the University Police. Faculty, staff, or students who park in areas where special "No Parking" or "Reserved" signs have been posted are subject to being ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense. University Police are not required to give notification before a vehicle is towed. If you find that your vehicle is missing, contact the University Police at 540-654-1025. Emergency Communications Operator (ECO) will determine if the vehicle has been towed and, if so, which tow company should be contacted. ALL FEES FOR TOWING ARE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE.

 

PARKING AREAS

.OFF CAMPUS PARKING (College of Arts and Sciences Fredericksburg Campus & CGPS Stafford Campus)

Off campus parking is regulated by the City of Fredericksburg for the Fredericksburg Campus and by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office for the CGPS Stafford Campus. Off campus parking is enforced by both the local jurisdictions and the University Police. Complete details of the governing ordinances can be obtained from the Fredericksburg Police Department or Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

 

DISABLED/LOCKED VEHICLES

State policy does not permit the University Police to unlocked vehicles or use jumper cables to start a disabled vehicle. A vehicle charging battery pack may be checked out from the Emergency Communication Office located in Brent Hall with proper identification.

 

SNOW EMERGENCY

To aid in snow removal on major roadways and parking lots, certain areas are designated "Snow Emergency Areas." This means that no vehicle may be parked in these areas when there is a threat of snow, sleet, freezing rain, or ice. Vehicles left in these areas are subject to being ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

The above listed lots will be cleaned first; then all other lots will be closed, and subsequently cleaned. When a snow emergency occurs, the US Rt. 1 access to Lots Numbered 10, 11, 12, and 13 will be closed. Vehicles parked in Lots Numbered 10, 11, and 13 must use the entrance gate located on Sunken Road. Vehicles parked in Lot Number 12 may be inaccessible until the snow emergency has been lifted. Vehicles parked in Lots Numbered 24 and 25 may also be inaccessible until the snow emergency has been lifted.

 

STUDENT SAFETY ESCORT SERVICE

Campus escorts are available from dusk to dawn. This escorts service is provided to students upon request. Services may be accessed by calling the University Police non-emergency line (540) 654-1025, or by using the 777 emergency blue light call boxes located throughout University parking lots or by dailing from your Cellular phone "(540) 654-4444" . An escort is always available after dark either from student escort service or by a University Police Officer
