Chapter 4: Campus Academic Resources
Instructional Technology
The Division of Teaching and Learning Technologies (DTLT) supports
the instructional technology needs of the University of Mary Washington
community through instructional design, training, troubleshooting, consulting,
and other services. The division's primary training, support, and multimedia
services are currently located in Chandler 105. DTLT hosts the annual
Student Academy on Information Technology and the annual Faculty Academy
on Instructional Technology, as well as other programs year-round to
showcase and stimulate innovative use of information technology by faculty
and students. The division is part of the University’s Department
of Information Technologies, which also operates the computing Technical
Assistance Center in Trinkle B40 (654-2255) to help the University community
with computing questions and problems.
Training often takes place in the Training Center in Trinkle B52, where
faculty and staff participate in workshops, seminars, and one-on-one
training. The Multimedia Resource Center/Foreign Language Lab in Combs
211 provides multimedia equipment and services in support of instructional
programs. The staff of the center also oversees the Media Library, a
video collection of more than 1600 titles on DVD, VHS videocassette,
and laserdisc.
The division also includes instructional technology specialists (ITSs)
stationed in the major academic buildings (Combs, Chandler/Trinkle,
Monroe, duPont-Melchers-Pollard, and Jepson). The ITSs help faculty
with all aspects of their work that involve information technology,
with special emphasis on the use of information technology in teaching
and learning.
DTLT is a vital part of the UMW Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable
(UMW - Teaching and Learning
Technologies Home Pagehttp://www.umw.edu/doit/dtlt/tltr), a policy-shaping
forum for faculty, staff, and students to address teaching and learning
issues and opportunities brought on by changes in information technology.
