chapter 4: Campus Academic Resources

Speaking Center

The Speaking Center, located in Combs Hall 101, provides support for the Speaking Intensive Program. Students preparing speaking assignments are welcome to take advantage of the Speaking Center’s facilities, even if their course is not designated as speaking-intensive.

At the Speaking Center, consultants help students select speech topics, organize and develop supporting materials, create visual aids, and enhance nonverbal delivery. Consultants also videotape and critique practice speeches. Help with coordinating discussions, managing question-and-answer sessions, and providing effective feedback to speakers is also offered.

Faculty who assign speech activities or who teach speaking intensive courses can use the Speaking Center for assistance with developing assignments, preparing students for those assignments, or evaluating speech activities. Faculty can also arrange to have consultants videotape speech activities in their classes.
