Chapter 5 Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures

Missing Classes Due to Illness

If a faculty member becomes unable to hold classes and his or her absences are not expected to exceed two weeks, the department chair shall ask colleagues in the department to cover the courses of the absent faculty member. If the faculty member's absences exceed two weeks, the chair shall proceed to have the faculty member's courses covered by either a member of the department or by a part-time instructor. Full financial compensation, including compensation for the first two weeks, shall be awarded to any faculty member who covers the classes of a colleague whose absence due to illness or injury has exceeded the two week period. Faculty who cannot resume their duties at the end of the two weeks will have their contracts terminated and will not be paid for the remainder of the semester.
