Chapter 8: General Information
Smoking Policy
It is an objective at the University to provide the healthiest environment
possible for students, staff, and faculty members. To this end, it is
policy that: (1) smoking is prohibited in all buildings, except in identified
areas and (2) the right of non-smokers to protect their health from
smoke takes precedence over an individual’s desire to smoke. In
general, smoking is prohibited in all indoor spaces occupied by non-smokers
and smokers. Department chairs may designate permitted indoor smoking
areas. Conflicts between smokers and non-smokers first should be referred
to the department chair, and barring resolution, to the Assistant Vice
President of Human Resources.
