Adjunct Faculty Handbook (CGPS)

Contractual Responsibilities

By accepting a contract to teach, instructors are expected to be at all class sessions, with class cancellations deemed unnecessary.  However, in the extremely unlikely event that an instructor cannot meet a class, the instructor must contact the program director.  Instructors must arrange a makeup session with students and must notify their program director accordingly.  Adjunct faculty are expected to be on campus to teach their classes, meet with students during appointed office hours, and administer final examinations.  They are not expected to participate in advising, committee work, study and discussion groups, or in other administrative or faculty-development activities.

In the event that a full-time faculty member’s course is cancelled, the dean reserves the right to reassign the full-time instructor to a class that was previously staffed by an adjunct.  Every effort will be made to minimize the likelihood of an adjunct being displaced and to provide the adjunct with adequate notice.
