Smoking Policy
It is an objective at the University to provide the healthiest environment possible for students, staff, and faculty members. To this end, it is University policy that: (1) smoking is prohibited in all buildings, and (2) the right of non-smokers to protect their health from smoke takes precedence over an individual’s desire to smoke. In general, smoking is prohibited in all indoor spaces. This policy became operative August 15, 1989, and revised January 1, 2007 in accordance with Virginia Governor’s Executive Order 41, “Banning Smoking in State Offices and Vehicles.”
