Freshman Academic Planning Guide (BA/BS)

Step 6) Tips and other considerations when planning a schedule

Evenly Distributing Courses

Classes are held every weekday from Monday through Friday, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Three-credit course sessions are 50 minutes long on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 1 hour and 15 minutes long on Tuesday and Thursday. Evening classes are held sometime between 6:00 to 9:45 p.m. and are 1 hour and 15 minutes or 3 hours in length (depending upon whether they are taught once or twice a week). Four-credit classes have laboratory sessions that meet at additional times.

The University encourages you to balance your schedule throughout the week, leaving time open between classes for research, study periods, reading, and writing papers - as well as socializing and having fun. The best collegiate experience is a well rounded one. Tipping the scales too far in any one direction can overwhelm you. Piling all of your classes on one day can make it difficult to focus and structure your time.
