Transfer Academic Planning Guide (BA/BS)

Classics: Classical Civilization

Please refer to the current University Catalog to see the course descriptions and a major description with requirements for a classical civilization concentration in classics.

New students considering a concentration in classical civilization, classical archaeology, or Latin should select a language course (Latin and/or Greek) according to their high school preparation.

New students considering a major in any of the classical concentrations may also select CLAS 101, which is required for all classics majors, CLAS 110, and/or ARTH 114A.

Attention Latin Students:  Students with a background in Latin are strongly encouraged to take the competency/placement exam offered on the first day of classes and be prepared to make adjustments in their course registration for the semester in accordance with the results of the exam.

If you are entering UMW with transfer credit for introductory level courses in this major, please refer to the major requirements and course prerequisites in the University Catalog (see above) to see what courses you are required to take for the major and what prerequisites you have already met.

Please be sure to remember the General Education and Across-the Curriculum Requirements and how your individual transfer credit affects the remaining courses you must take at UMW for a BA/BS degree.
