Geography
Please refer to the current University Catalog to see the course descriptions and a major description with requirements for geography.
New students considering majoring in geography should consider taking GEOG 101 or GEOG 102 (students should not take both GEOG 101 and GEOG 102 because only one will count in the major) and GEOG 110.
Students should also consider taking GEOG 221A or GEOG 222A, they count as Major Electives, fulfill part of the Human Experience and Society Requirement, and seats are saved in both classes for first-year students.
Geography major and non-major students should also consider taking GEOG 250 within their first or second year. GEOG 250 is a gateway course into the GIS certificate program which is excellent for Geography majors and would also compliment majors in Environmental Science, Biology, Business Administration, and most social sciences. GEOG 250 will also fulfill the 200 level methods requirement for Geography majors.
If you are entering UMW with transfer credit for introductory level courses in this major, please refer to the major requirements and course prerequisites in the University Catalog (see above) to see what courses you are required to take for the major and what prerequisites you have already met.
Please be sure to remember the General Education and Across-the Curriculum Requirements and how your individual transfer credit affects the remaining courses you must take at UMW for a BA/BS degree.
