Transfer Academic Planning Guide (BA/BS)

Historic Preservation

Please refer to the current University Catalog to see the course descriptions and a major description with requirements for historic preservation.

Suggested first semester classes for the prospective historic preservation major include: HISP 102 and/or HISP 207 and/or HISP 209 and/or HISP 200(this course is only offered in the fall). In the following fall semester, students should pursue HISP 101 and HISP 206 (neither are offered in the spring). New students considering a major in historic preservation should take HISP 101 and HISP 102 in their first two semesters at UMW, as these courses serve as pre-requisites for higher level courses in the major.

Transfer students are also encouraged to take HISP 205 in their first year, as this course is critical to finishing the major in a timely manner.  Please see the chair of the Historic Preservation department regarding this matter, as it requires authorization to take HISP 205 in the first semester at UMW.

If you are entering UMW with transfer credit for introductory level courses in this major, please refer to the major requirements and course prerequisites in the University Catalog (see above) to see what courses you are required to take for the major and what prerequisites you have already met.

Please be sure to remember the General Education and Across-the Curriculum Requirements and how your individual transfer credit affects the remaining courses you must take at UMW for a BA/BS degree.
