Transfer Student Academic Planning Guide
Step 3) Understand the benefits of a VCCS Associate's Degree
Students who have received an appropriate Associates degree from a VCCS (Virginia Community College System) school before matriculating at the University of Mary Washington will have satisfied all of the General Education requirements except for the Foreign Language Requirement and Experiential Learning. Such students will be considered to have attained junior standing (defined as 60 or more credit hours).
Although most of the General Education requirements are satisfied, transfer students who fit into this category must still complete the Across-the-Curriculum requirements (Writing Intensive & Speaking Intensive) and course prerequisites. Some transfer coursework may fulfill parts of these requirements on a course-by-course basis, but students should carefully review the transfer credit they are awarded at UMW to see if coursework completed at other institutions satisfies these requirements at UMW.
Official transcripts and examination scores for all pre-matriculation transfer work must be received by UMW no later than the last day of your first semester at UMW.
