Academic Honors
Undergraduate
Undergraduate honors are awarded at the time of graduation
to graduating students who have achieved a level of academic
distinction. Those students who have earned the following
cumulative grade-point averages, based on a minimum of 60 credits completed at the University, qualify for:
Summa Cum Laude................... 3.75 or higher
Magna Cum Laude.................... 3.50 to 3.74
Cum Laude.............................. 3.25 to 3.49
Undergraduate students who have earned at least 30 University credits
qualify for:
With Highest Distinction............ 3.75 or higher
With Distinction........................ 3.30 to 3.74
Dean’s List
Undergraduate students who earn a semester grade-point average (GPA)
of 3.5 or higher based on a minimum of six graded credits are placed on the
Dean’s List for the semester and their permanent record is noted.
Omicron-Psi National Honor Society
Omicron-Psi is a national honor society that promotes active participation
in community activities and recognizes the need to make a difference in
society. Omicron-Psi, established for nontraditional students, stands for
duty, honor, and service. The society recognizes undergraduate juniors and
seniors who have maintained the highest of ethical standards and academic
achievement. The following requirements must be met to qualify for this honor.
A student must:
- Be at least 24 years of age;
- Be an undergraduate with a minimum of 60 graded credits, 30 of which were earned from the University;
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale;
- Be an active participant in a minimum of three community or professional organizations. One must be a professional organization, and one must be a community organization. Organizations must reflect the community values of the University as stated in this Academic Catalog;
- Maintain the principles of duty, honor, and service;
- Maintain and demonstrate high ethical standards in all aspects of life;
- Submit a brief, well-written essay on how he or she subscribes to the principles of duty, honor, and service and maintains and demonstrates high ethical standards in all aspects of life; and
- Submit two letters of recommendation, one from a leader in the professional organization and one from a leader in the community organization in which the student is involved.
In addition, Omicron-Psi offers scholarships, and members may apply for scholarships once a year for every year of continued education.
Outstanding Student Award
An award is presented annually to the outstanding graduate in each of the
degree programs at the College. To be nominated for the award, the student
must have a minimum 3.8 GPA, and must demonstrate academic excellence
beyond the GPA. The student must also demonstrate leadership, enthusiasm,
commitment, and professional potential. The faculty of each program selects its
outstanding graduate, and the award is kept confidential until Commencement
each spring. The selected student receives a monetary award and a special
commemorative plaque.
President’s List
Undergraduate students who earn a semester GPA of 4.0 based on a
minimum of six graded credits are placed on the President’s List and their
permanent record is noted.
Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
Students selected for recognition in Who’s Who must meet the following
criteria:
- Have earned at least 30 graded credits at the University;
- Have earned a cumulative 3.8 GPA or higher;
- Have no Cs;
- Have no more than one B in the degree program;
- Have no more than 60 transfer credits; and
- Have not previously earned the award in their current degree program at the University
No application is necessary. Eligible students will be reviewed automatically and selections made by the Office of Advising Services. Recognition will be awarded to qualifying graduating students only.
