Academic Honors

Undergraduate

Undergraduate honors are awarded at the time of graduation to graduating students who have achieved a level of academic distinction. Those students who have earned the following cumulative grade-point averages, based on a minimum of 60 credits completed at the University, qualify for:

Summa Cum Laude ..................... 3.75 or higher
Magna Cum Laude ...................... 3.50 to 3.74
Cum Laude .................................. 3.25 to 3.49

Undergraduate students who have earned at least 30 University credits qualify for:

With Highest Distinction ............... 3.75 or higher
With Distinction ........................... 3.30 to 3.74

Dean’s List

Undergraduate students who earn a term grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher based on a minimum of six graded credits are placed on the Dean’s Honor List for the term and their permanent record is noted.

Omicron-Psi National Honor Society

Omicron-Psi is a national honor society that promotes active participation in community activities and recognizes the need to make a difference in society. Omicron- Psi, established for nontraditional students, stands for duty, honor and service. The society recognizes undergraduate juniors and seniors who have maintained the highest of ethical standards and academic achievement. The following requirements must be met to qualify for this honor. A student must:
1. Be at least 24 years of age;
2. Be an undergraduate with a minimum of 60 graded credits, 30 of which were earned from the University;
3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale;
4. Serve as an active participant in a minimum of three community/professional activities. One must be a professional organization, and one must be a community organization. Organizations must reflect the community values of the University as stated in the CGPS Academic Catalog;
5. Maintain the principles of duty, honor and service;
6. Maintain and demonstrate high ethical standards in all aspects of life;
7. Submit a brief, well-written essay on how he/she subscribes to the principles of duty, honor and service and maintains and demonstrates high ethical standards in all aspects of life; and
8. Submit two letters of recommendation, one from a leader in the professional organization and one from a leader in the community organization in which the student is involved.

In addition, Omicron-Psi offers scholarships, and members may apply for scholarships once a year for every year of continued education.

Outstanding Student Award

An award is presented annually to the outstanding graduate in each of the degree programs at CGPS. To be nominated for the award, the student must have a minimum 3.8 GPA, and must demonstrate academic excellence beyond the GPA. The student must also demonstrate leadership, enthusiasm, commitment and professional potential. The faculty of each program will select its outstanding graduate, and the award will be kept confidential until commencement each spring. The selected student will receive a monetary award and special commemorative plaque.

President’s List

Undergraduate students who earn a term GPA of 4.0 based on a minimum of six graded credits are placed on the President’s List and their permanent record is noted.

Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges

Students selected for recognition in Who’s Who must meet the following criteria:

1. Have earned at least 30 graded credits at the University;
2. Have earned a cumulative 3.8 GPA or higher;
3. Have no Cs;
4. Have no more than one B in the degree program;
5. Have no more than 60 transfer credits; and
6. Have not previously earned the award in their current degree program at the University.

No application is necessary. Eligible students automatically will be reviewed and selections made by the CGPS Office of Advising and Student Services. Recognition will be awarded to qualifying graduating students only.

Omicron-Psi National Honor Society

3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale;
4. Serve as an active participant in a minimum of three community/professional activities. One must be a professional organization, and one must be a community organization. Organizations must reflect the community values of the University as stated in the CGPS Academic Catalog;
5. Maintain the principles of duty, honor and service;
6. Maintain and demonstrate high ethical standards in all aspects of life;

6. Have not previously earned the award in their current degree program at the University.

No application is necessary. Eligible students automatically will be reviewed and selections made by the Office of Advising and Student Services. Recognition will be awarded to qualifying graduating students only.
