Faculty Handbook (CAS - MWC)
Section 2: Governance

2.13  Amending the Faculty Handbook

When any organizational change, policy change, or procedure revision is adopted that needs to be reflected in this Faculty Handbook, it is incumbent upon the body adopting the change or approving the revision to provide the necessary amendment(s) in appropriate Handbook language at the time the action is taken.

2.13.1  Amendments to Section 1 of the Handbook     Amendments to Section 1 of the Faculty Handbook are adopted by the Board of Visitors upon the recommendation of the President. Section 1 may be amended by the Faculty Senate under rules governing that body, subject to final approval by the Board.

2.13.2  Amendments to Sections 2 through 6 of the Handbook    Amendments to Sections 2 through 6 of the Faculty Handbook are adopted by the Board of Visitors. Recommendations for such amendments may come either from the President or directly from the Faculty Senate. In the latter case, they must first be approved formally by a majority vote in a meeting of the Faculty Senate.

2.13.3  Amendments to Section 7 of the Handbook    Amendments to Section 7 of the Handbook are adopted as appropriate by the President. Recommendations for corrections or additions to this section should be addressed to the Executive Assistant to the President.

2.13.4  Effectuating Amendments     This Faculty Handbook was approved in its entirety by the Board of Visitors on April 7, 2006 and shall remain in effect until amended in accordance with the procedures set forth above. The faculty secretary, working with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, ensures that the Faculty Handbook is updated annually according to faculty and Faculty Senate actions which have taken place and that corrected pages are distributed. All amendments shall be published and distributed to all faculty by the Academic Affairs Office for inclusion as permanent revisions in the Handbook, in the academic year following the year in which they are adopted. Amendments go into effect at the beginning of the academic year following their adoption unless otherwise stated in the amendment itself. The definitive version of the Faculty Handbook shall be the electronic version published on the University web site.
