Internships
(Professional Experiences and Networking Program)

CGPS offers students professional internships, allowing qualified individuals varied opportunities to complete professional projects where they may apply and expand their knowledge under expert guidance. Faculty members in the various CGPS academic programs supervise these interns. Academic credit, typically three credits, is awarded for the experience. No more than six internship credits may count toward the minimum number of credits required in a concentration. Only degree-seeking undergraduate students who have transferred/accumulated at least 45 credits toward the CGPS degree with at least 12 semester credits completed at CGPS with an overall 2.5 grade-point average (GPA) are eligible to participate in the Professional Experiences and Networking Program (PEN). Graduate students must have completed a minimum of six semester credits in CGPS course work and have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher as a degree student to be eligible for an internship project. Prior to beginning an internship, a student must contact the sponsoring program and the Office of Career Services for approval procedures.

Students who wish to do an internship at an agency where they already have completed an internship, or at an agency where they have been employed or volunteered, or in an UMW administrative office, must seek approval from the Academic Program Director, the Associate Dean of Advising Services and the CGPS Internship Director. Instructions for these special approval internships are available in the Office of Career Services.
