Frawley is fluent in the language of leadership

The 1971 valedictorian of Point Pleasant Boro High School in Point Pleasant, N.J., had a decision to make. Athletics or academics? He loved both.
However, had this scholar-athlete chosen only sports, the University of Mary Washington might not have ended up with William J. Frawley as its seventh president. “At 17 years old, I had two passions – books and baseball,” Frawley said. “So I followed the advice of that respected sage Yogi Berra, who said, ‘When you come to a fork in the road, take it.’
I went off as a freshman to the University of Pennsylvania on an academic and athletic scholarship but soon learned that there were many athletes much more accomplished than I was. When you cannot hit the curveball – and fellow team members are hitting that ball out of the park – you experience a life lesson.”
