Jackie Whitehurst Hertz and Jim visited Nancy Shope Armbruster and Joe in Santa Fe, N.M., then went golfing and fishing. The men made plans for an elk-hunting trip to Colorado in September. In April, Nancy and Joe went to Los Angeles to visit their daughter, Jean, and her husband, Mark. They had lunch at the Getty with Kathy Rozmarynowski Capanna. Kathy starred in a Los Angeles theater production of Lion in Winter last year.

Minnie Brooks Rainey Mayberry and her husband of 48 years spent several days in Rome plus nine days in a villa in Umbria. Minnie recently talked to Rhoda Browning McWilliams, Coralyn White McGeehan and Mary Bess Whidden, and reported that all three were as sassy as ever.

Joan Membert Shropshire and “Shrop” celebrated their 50th anniversary in April. All of their family went to Wisconsin; they also had extended family there from coast to coast.

Mabel Ann Strickler Doumas and husband Bill, Fredericksburg residents, have a tennis foursome that plays twice a week. They also travel frequently as part of his volunteer work with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. They were most recently in San Francisco, South Africa and New Orleans.

Joan Darden spends her summer playing in golf tournaments. Phyllis Melillo Shanahan’s biggest news is that she has two new grandbabies. She planned to be in Germany and Eastern Europe on a trip this summer, and spent last summer in Italy. She and her husband sold the family farm and are enjoying the freedom from responsibility. Winters are spent in Deerfield Beach, Fla., but they came back a month early this year for a niece’s wedding at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York.

Ginny Marco Hancock is involved in historic preservation efforts in the Hudson Valley of New York. She also is trying to keep their family farm outside Winchester, Va., preserved so that new development will not cover the beautiful fields. Her son, Greg, is married and lives in New York. Daughter Rebecca is in Michigan. Ginny and Mike are still playing their musical instruments from high school and college days. Mike plays in a community band and in church.
