Jean Lee Anderson Chapman and her husband moved to a condo two miles from their old home. They also were expecting their ninth grandchild.
Judi Pyrke Orrell had been looking for Cindy Walsh-Haines for several years, and finally located her in Lansdale, Pa. Ruthie Ridge Griggs spent her 50th high school reunion with Phyllis Myers Thum and Alice Cox Garrett on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In this election year, Ruthie wonders who remembers Mary Washington students going by train to watch Eisenhower’s 1957 inauguration.

Mary Townsend Bates Rupe was married in July 2003 in Williamsburg, Va. She and her husband spent a winter vacation in Key West, Fla., and threw their annual Kentucky Derby party for 80 neighbors and friends.

Ann Ratcliffe Harrover Thomas keeps busy volunteering, traveling and having fun. She is chair of the Manassas Museum Associates and is on the Manassas Historical Resources Board, among others. Her three children and four grandchildren live in the area. Ann sees a lot of Nancy Smith Campbell ’59 and Kitty Dishman Crandall ’59. Last Christmas, she heard from Catherine “Kay” Purdy Cook in California. She also learned from Carolyn Hickman Bowman ’59 that one of her roommates, Sue Luckett Haynie, passed away in Pennsylvania right after Christmas. Ann’s second husband, Don Thomas, died in 2002.

Carlton A. Adams was in the class of 1958, but finished in the summer of 1957. She has a masters in education from William & Mary and is working as a secretary in the college’s biology department. She has had hip replacements, but is back at work.

Judy O’Sullivan Milton lost Russ, her husband of 39 years, last October after a long illness. She has been keeping busy resuming activities that had been put aside. Judy is involved in a writing group that published a book of their short stories. She has traveled to California and the Caribbean, and planned a trip to Vancouver, B.C. She hopes to get back to her oil painting this spring. Her son, Michael, and family moved to Ormond Beach from California. Son Brian, Michael’s identical twin, still lives in California. Brian and his wife, Kathy, were expecting this summer. Judy’s daughter, Heather, received her doctorate in English and teaches at the University of Florida. In 2003, Judy spent a lovely evening with Sally Bates Larson in New York. She also talked with Carolyn Dale Miller, who was unable to join Sally and Judy for dinner.

Kay Martin Britto of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., organized her high school’s 50th reunion and took a trip to San Francisco with her older daughter. She is still working at the local public library and enjoys living at the beach.

Meredith Busby Frank and husband Jim retired in 2001 and moved from Geneva, Ill., to Marion, Va. They purchased a contemporary cedar house on the side of a mountain and have been busy redecorating ever since. Daughter Helen and her husband live in Sandy, Utah; Helen is radio DJ “Helen Powers.”

Joanne Parker Hearn Foley remarried in 1997. She and her husband keep very busy with church activities and travel. Joanne has one daughter, one grandson, three stepchildren and six step-grandchildren.

After spending 31 years in the classroom and five years working in a hospital, Joyce Smith retired 10 years ago. She traveled to Alaska and New Orleans in 2003, and Kansas City last summer. She also recently visited her roommate, Marilyn Corbitt Faison, in Suffolk, Va. Joyce collects antique dolls. She also keeps in touch with suitemates Peggy Saunders Burroughs in Richmond and Pat Simmer Bishop.

Elinor Runge Vitek and Brant spent the winter on their boat in Florida. They also spent five months in the Bahamas. Last year, Betsy Smith LaFever and Martha Kimball Johnson met the boat in Sarasota. Elinor has four grandchildren.

Fay Purcell Parke Cantrell retired as chairperson of the Clinton High School Guidance Department several years ago. She enjoys garden club activities and several social clubs. She and her second husband live on a farm in the Knoxville, Tenn., area.

Martha Kimball Hearn Johnson planned to visit her daughter in England. Martha’s son, Mason Hearn, owns a design-build firm near Richmond. He had an article published in Southern Living magazine.

Evelyn “Ebie” Breeden McKnight retired from Kentucky state government and moved closer to her daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren. Her son is single and lives in Greensboro, N.C.

Edie Massie Warner recently spoke with Jean Lee Anderson Chapman and hopes to visit her soon. Edie, who lives in Ann Arbor, Mich., is retired from teaching and now tutors. Her cousin and his wife live at Tyro in Nelson County, and Edie tries to visit twice a year.

Kay Ruth McMillan and her family are recovering from husband Colin’s unexpected death in July 2003. Kay, who lives in Roswell, N.M., has four children and seven grandchildren.

Jerry Sample Stocks and husband Raymond live in Beaufort, S.C. Jerry was a flight attendant on charter, domestic and international flights. She traveled on flights with Bob Dole during his presidential campaign. Now she is busy with her 1-year-old granddaughter. Jerry and Mary Louise “Gibb” Hurley Krauser, our freshman year class president, had a reunion in New England in 2003.

Jerry, Fran Karins Updike and Carol Ann Lassalle McMahon visited Mary McCardell Furr in Norfolk. They try to make this trip annually. Carol was married in 2002 and lives in New Orleans. Fran spends hours in her studio painting watercolors for several upcoming exhibits. She and her husband have 12 grandchildren. Fran also plays tennis and has earned master gardener status.

Betty Gould Storms and husband Bob traveled from Leavenworth, Kan., to Burlington, N.J., for a high school reunion. While there, she visited with Mary Eliz Hendrickson Greenup, and her husband.

Because her recital tours abroad are planned several years in advance, Peggy Kelley Reinburg had to miss the 2003 reunion. She was in Paris, Germany and Australia. Peggy is on the faculty of the Center for Sacred Music Studies at Virginia Wesleyan College. She loves living in Norfolk and being close to Virginia Beach.
