Heidi Klussmann Brugmann lives in Munich with husband Guillermo. She has retired
and travels with her husband on business trips. They recently went to Thailand
and Malaysia.
Kathy Billos Lianos has lived in Athens since 1977. She has been married for
24 years to a retired police officer who is now the adviser on security matters
to the CEO of the Athens International Airport. She has two children: Panagiotis
is at Deree College in Athens and Evangelia is pursuing a master’s degree
at London School of Economics and Political Science. Kathy teaches private
English lessons and stays busy keeping up with her family and traveling back
and forth to the United States. She has traveled to Australia and India as
well.
Mary Johnson Mulligan lives in Titusville, Fla., and works as a program analyst
with NASA at the Kennedy Space Center. Son Patrick is at Emory University;
daughters Katie and Courtney are in high school. Mary’s husband passed
away three years ago, but she is very thankful that she and her children have
been able to adjust.
Deborah Peel Spidle has lived in Omaha, Neb., with her husband, Jim, since
1989. They both work in the information technology field and have two dogs.
Deborah also is involved with a local church choir, and she substitutes for
the organist on occasion. In addition, she has had three compositions for
handbells published.
Cathy Morris Day has lived in Texas for nearly 11 years. Her husband is a
pastor at a small Baptist church and they have three sons. One is in community
college, one is at the University of North Texas and one is in high school.
Cathy works as an administrative assistant at a local hospital.
Sue Sendlein Luscomb lives in Germantown, Tenn. Daughter Alicia is a psychology
major at Auburn University and daughter Ashton is a senior in high school.
Sue has served as a PTA president at her daughters’ elementary, middle
and high schools. She is also very involved in an educational philanthropic
organization for women. To satisfy her nostalgia for her alma mater, Sue’s
family ordered her a MWC chair for Mother’s Day!
Helen Taylor Salter had a very rough winter with health issues, but she is
doing much better. Madelin Jones Barratt went to Rwanda to visit an orphanage
for children whose parents were victims of the genocide. Before leaving, she
crossed paths with Barbara Baylis Hinton in Falls Church, Va. Barbara and
her husband, Don, have two daughters. Laura, 15, plays the bassoon and Jackie,
12, plays the string bass.
Carolyn Roberts and Susan Grimes both wrote to tell me about their excellent
birthday vacation to New Zealand, where they backpacked, hiked, kayaked and
cycled. Susan’s 14 year-old-son accompanied them.
Jane Reese is still busy with her consulting business. She was preparing to
move to Rehoboth Beach, Del., and commute when necessary. Martha Prettyman
Dinger-Neave has been a breast cancer survivor for two years. Her husband
is a teacher and softball coach at Annandale High School. She still has her
plant and aquarium business. Her son has graduated and works nearby. Martha
ran into Hannah Patterson Crew at the Special Olympic State Games in Richmond,
where she and her daughter were volunteering.
Laura Null was my son’s eighth grade art teacher this year! I met her
six years ago when my daughter was in her class, but I had never made the
Mary Washington connection.
