MEMO
TO: All alumni
FROM: Monecia Helton Taylor ’81
It is a pleasure to extend greetings to you as I begin my term as president
of the University of Mary Washington Alumni Association. I also extend
my sincere thanks to Kathy Shepherd Mehfoud ’70, our immediate
past president, for her leadership and commitment over the past two
years. Besides presiding over alumni board meetings and representing
the Alumni Association at various campus events, Kathy attended numerous
regional alumni programs and hosted several alumni gatherings while
on business travel.
I am privileged to serve at such an exciting and significant time in
the history of our alma mater. We are officially a university, with
a dynamic new graphic identity, an outstanding student body and a beautiful
new alumni center. You also are seeing the first issue of University
of Mary Washington TODAY, with its exciting new design and color
throughout.
Your Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, an enthusiastic
and diverse group, met on Homecoming weekend in October. Among the agenda
items was approval of a resolution endorsing the University’s
mission statement. We also began discussing ways to involve students
and alumni from the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. The
highlight of the meeting was its location. The Jepson Alumni Executive
Center is a breathtaking combination of elegant design and state-of-the-art
functionality. I encourage you to come and see it for yourself. It will
enhance your pride as an alumnus and renew your connection to the University.
We have many exciting times ahead as we begin this new era. Please come
back and visit the campus, attend regional alumni events in your area,
and stay in touch with friends and classmates through our online community
for alumni. I look forward to serving you for the next two years.
| UPCOMING EVENTS: Mary Washington's Office of Alumni Relations will be taking its show on the road. Regional alumni events are being planned in:
