Lalo Alcaraz
The Cultural
Awareness Series kicked off its 2004-2005 season with a multi-media presentation
from nationally syndicated cartoonist Lalo
Alcaraz.
Creator of the politically-charged Latino comic strip “La Cucaracha,”
Alcaraz sketched spontaneously his favorite cartoons while sharing his dazzling
kaleidoscope of knowledge with his Mary Washington audience.
He began his career drawing editorial cartoons for his college newspaper,
the Daily Aztec, at San Diego State University. “La Cucaracha”
appears daily in the Los Angeles Times, Denver Post, Arizona Republic,
Houston Chronicle, Chicago Sun-Times, San Diego Tribune and 60 other
major newspapers. Alcaraz’s latest books are Latino USA: A Cartoon
History and Migra Mouse: Political Cartoons on Immigration.
He also co-edits the satirical magazine, Pocho.
