UMW Today Winter 2007

FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
TO: All Alumni
FROM: Barbara Burton Micou ’69

It is my pleasure to write to you as I begin my term as President of the Alumni Association. I look forward to working with the alumni Board of Directors for the next two years. It’s an exciting time for University of Mary Washington and for all alumni, as we welcome President Frawley’s dynamic new leadership and prepare to celebrate our Centennial.

I was honored to bring greetings on behalf of the Alumni Association at President Frawley’s inaugural ceremony in late September. It was thrilling to witness this historic occasion and to share it with so many UMW alumni, students, faculty, parents, and friends. I came away with a sense of excitement about Mary Washington’s future, and a great sense of pride as an alumna.

President Frawley has undertaken a vigorous tour of “town meetings” with alumni and friends in various regions of Virginia and the country. He is emphasizing the opportunity to have conversations about the University’s future, and I hope you will join him at an event in your area.

As of early fall, we are reaching more than 60 percent of our alumni via email.

I am delighted and proud that so many of you want to stay in touch with Mary Washington this way, and I hope you enjoy keeping up with campus news via our quarterly e-newsletter. Our online community enables you to stay abreast of upcoming events, register for them online and even view a list of other registrants. In addition, using the “alumni.umw.edu” e-mail forwarding address indicates your pride in your alma mater.

As another semester unfolds, I hope you’ll keep Mary Washington high on your priority list. If you haven’t visited either of our campuses – Fredericksburg or Stafford – in a while, come back and view for yourself the exciting changes that are under way. Join us for an event in your area, recommend strong prospective students, and above all, keep in touch!
