Executive Program Brings Success Stories Back to UMW

Established in 1989, Mary Washington’s Executive-in-Residence program was created to allow students to learn more about free enterprise by introducing them to corporate leaders.

A special centennial version of this program was designed to showcase Mary Washington graduates who’ve become successful entrepreneurs – men and women who have dared to strike out on their own, opening businesses, founding companies, and launching ventures.

Last fall, UMW hosted Kevin Dillard ’83, cofounder and president of LifeCare Medical Transports Inc.; Ken Lopez ’92, founder and CEO of Animators at Law, a company that produces computer-animated trial exhibits and jury research for large law firms; and Aaron Altscher ’03, MBA ’06, who participated in Donald Trump’s hit reality television show The Apprentice and runs a small-business consulting firm.

Spring will bring another batch of these brave business buffs back to UMW.

Scheduled to appear are Iris Harrell ’69, founder of the residential construction company Harrell Remodeling, Inc.; Gaynelle Parrish Grizzard ’50, co-owner of Southeastern Mill, a flour, cornmeal, grits, and specialty mix producer in Georgia; and Doug Simpson ’04, MBA ’07, owner of the technical solutions development company Adasphere.

The next Executive-in-Residence programs are scheduled to take place March 24 at UMW’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies in Stafford County and March 25 at the Jepson Alumni Executive Center in Fredericksburg. For details, call the Office of University Relations at 540/654-1055.
