The Fitness Center
The Fitness Center is the indoor flagship facility of the Department of Campus Recreation. The 19,000 square foot center opened February 2004 and continually serves 500 to 600 participants daily. The two level facility features a cardio training area and a strength training area. Additional features include a bank of six suspended televisions offering local cable television via the Cardio Theater wireless entertainment system. Also housed on the lower level is the Wellness Resource Center offering a resource library for wellness information.
The Fitness Center is open for recreational use by the University community seven days a week during the traditional academic year and during both summer sessions. Traditional academic year hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 12 to 8 p.m. Summer session hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information about the Fitness Center contact Bob Liebau, Associate Director of Campus Recreation at 654-1098 or the Fitness Center Reception Desk at 654-1REC (654-1732).
Fitness Center and Thanksgiving Break: The Fitness Center will be closing at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24th for the start of the UMW Thanksgiving Break. The Fitness Center will be closed from Wednesday, November 25th through Sunday, November 29th. Regular hours will resume on Monday, November 30th, opening at 7:00 a.m. Check back soon for the Winter Break schedule.
Fitness Center Policies
ID CARDS: A university ID required for entrance into all university recreational facilities.
The Fitness Center Guest Policy - Guests of eligible users may use the facility with an authorized guest pass. The eligible student user will be required to escort the guest to the Fitness Center to secure a guest pass. The guest must present a valid photo ID at the Fitness Center reception desk to gain access and use of the facility. The guest pass holder may use the facility only for the date specified on the guest pass. Guests may use the facility from Thursday 6:00 p.m. through closing time Sunday night during the regular academic year. No guests will be able to use the facility from Monday through Wednesday and Thursday until 6:00 p.m. All guests must be 18 or older.
Fitness Center Summer Session Guest Policy - Any eligible user may authorize a guest to use the facility any day during the week as long as the user 'buddies-up' with the guest.
Please Note: Secondary ID card holders do not have guest privileges and may not bring a guest.

The Campus Recreation Field - CRF
The Campus Recreation Field (CRF) is the second crown jewel facility for Campus Recreation and the University of Mary Washington community. The CRF is the new home to many of our Eagle Sport Club programs and plays host to all outdoor IM Sports competitions on campus. The facility also is used for open recreation, campus special events, as well as some intercollegiate team training sessions. The state-of-the-art ATurf surface allows practices and competition to take place in virtually any type of weather, and the Musco Advanced Lighting system enables play to continue into the evening and in overcast conditions.
OPEN REC on the CRF: Open rec is now finished for the fall semester. Please check back in January for spring semester open rec times.
Hanover Recreation Field
Hanover Recreation Field is a full-size natural grass surface adjacent to the Battleground athletic complex. Hanover Recreation Field is home to the Eagle men’s and women’s club rugby programs and provides daily opportunities for open recreation. The field is scheduled for use and can be reserved through the Department of Campus Recreation. In general, UMW sport clubs will share practice time in the afternoon to early evening. The field is available to members of the Mary Washington community for general recreation at all other times.
Athletics/Physical Education Department
The home of the Athletics Indoor Sports and the Physical Education Department, Goolrick Hall boasts 75,000 square feet of activity space and is open for recreational use by the University community throughout the year only when classes are in session. The recreation facilities are open for use during the traditional academic year and during both summer sessions when Physical Education classes are not using the venues. Additionally the weight room in Goolrick Hall may be reserved for use by UMW athletic teams throughout the traditional academic year. Goolrick Hall Policies

Goolrick Hall Guest Policy - Guests may use Goolrick Hall recreational facilities from Thursdays at 6 p.m. through closing on Sunday. UMW students, faculty, and staff may each host one guest when using the facilities in Goolrick Hall during the posted hours. A Guest Pass must be completed by the host and returned to the Goolrick Hall desk aide. Passes are available from the Goolrick Hall desk aide and at the Fitness Center reception desk.

Goolrick Hall Thanksgiving Break: Goolrick will close for Thanksgiving Break at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24th. The facility will be closed until Monday November 30th when it will open at 7:30 a.m. Check back soon for the Winter Break schedule.
Managed by the Athletics and Physical Education Department, the main gym, auxiliary gym, racquetball court, dance studios, weight room and cardio room are available for recreational use at any time when not being used for physical education classes, intercollegiate practices and competitions, aerobics/group exercise classes, intramural activities or other events scheduled by the Office of Campus Recreation. Building hours are posted at the main entrance and at the desk aide's station. Some classes are scheduled to use the main and auxiliary gyms as back up in the event of inclement weather. These facilities are available for open recreation during those times when all weather permits outdoor activity.

Goolrick Hall MAIN GYM

Handball/Racquetball Court
The court may be reserved by calling the Goolrick Hall front desk,
654-1901. Reservations are limited to one hour per day. However, if
the court has not been reserved, additional time is permitted. Reservations
can be made 48 hours in advance with the exception that reservations
can be made on Friday for a Monday time. Reservations will be void if
a person is not at the court 10 minutes after reserved time has begun.
Weight Room and Cardio Room B4 - Goolrick Hall
Recreational use of these rooms is prohibited while classes are in residence.
All persons must leave the weight room and cardio room 10 minutes before
the building closes.

Battleground Tennis Courts
Courts are scheduled to be open from the first week of classes of the fall semester until November 1st. During the spring semester, they are scheduled to be open from the first Monday following Spring Break until the end of the academic year. A University ID is required for entrance and use of the tennis court facility. Tennis classes are typically held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily.
Regular Semester Court Availability:
Monday through Friday 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., weather permitting.
Saturday and Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.
These courts are shared with the Men's and Women's varsity tennis programs. Court availability is subject to change depending upon scheduled match play or tournament play.
University Tennis Center
The crown jewel of the Battleground Athletic Complex , the six-court, state-of-the-art University Tennis Center Tennis Center is located next to the award-winning 12-court outdoor tennis facility at the Battleground Athletic Complex. The University Tennis Center hosted the 2006 NCAA Division III National Men's Championships, the 2007 NCAA Division III National Women's Championships, and has received the 2006 USTA Mid-Atlantic Section "Facility of the Year" Award and the 2007 USTA Outstanding Facility Award. The center is available for recreational use unless posted otherwise.
