Not all UMW residential facilities are air-conditioned. Students requiring air conditioning as part of necessary treatment for a serious medical condition including but not limited to asthma, allergies, allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis should submit the Air Conditioned Housing Accommodation request form through myUMW.

- Returning students-Coincides with Housing Selection Pre-Process Deadline
- First time students-Coincides with Housing Agreement Deadline
- Spring admits-Rolling Deadline
Supporting Medical Documentation – Information provided by a medical professional (doctor or nurse practitioner) on either a prescription notepad or letterhead containing the student’s name, birth date, and diagnosis, and indicating air-conditioned housing as a requirement for treatment. The supporting documentation may be electronically attached to the request, faxed to (540) 654-1527, or mailed to:

Students approved after room assignments have concluded will be permitted to bring a personal window air-conditioning unit to be installed by UMW Facilities Services (at the request of Residence Life). Maintenance on personal air conditioners is the responsibility of the student. If the student requests to have the air conditioner removed prior to the end of the year, a $75 fee will be charged to re-install it. Required specifications for units are:
- 5,000 BTUs, max 7,000 BTUs
- 115-120 volts with 8 amps maximum
