Counseling

Counselors meet individually with clients in a confidential session to determine their particular small business needs and to develop a plan of action. Counselors provide information on a variety of business subjects so that client can make informed decisions regarding their business. Some of the most common areas for discussion include:

  • Business and strategic planning
  • business structure considerations (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, limited liability company, etc.)
  • Marketing
  • Personnel concerns (hiring employees, policies and procedures, etc.)
  • Purchase or sale of a small business.

Training

Our seminars, training programs and workshops are developed to prepare new and existing small business owners to start, expand or improve management operations. Information Resources

Our resource center, contains reference books, brochures, articles, and videotapes covering various subjects of interest to small business. We also have access to national databases, web resources, and a partnership with our host, the University of Mary Washington. Customers and clients can access the College of Graduate and Professional Studies Virtual Library, and Power Research by clicking on "Links to Business Resources". Clients may schedule computer time by appointment.

We can also assist small businesses in seeking the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of other outside resources such as government agencies, manufactures, publishers, and trade associations. Clients may contact these organizations directly for information specific to their small business.
