RRSBDC Fredericksburg's First STeps to Starting a Business Seminar

Answer the questions: "where do I begin?" and "what should I do first?"

This seminar is designed to acquaint the attendees with some of the very first areas of concern when starting a business such as business potential, ownership characteristics, legal structure, finance, marketing, and business planning.

Topics covered:

  • Facts about small businesses.
  • Self-assesment: Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur?
  • Business potential analysis: Defining your idea, analyzing the market, identifying your customers, and assessing financial feasibility.
  • Selecting the proper business structure: Overview of the different types of structures and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • Licensing and registration: Overview of state and local requirements.
  • Business insurance: Overview of the major categories of business insurance
  • Financing the business operation: sources of funding, lender requirements, loan package development, and SBA-backed loans.
  • Developing a business plan: Business plan outline.

Fee and how to register:
  • There is a non-refundable materials fee of $30 to attend.
  • The fee and registration form must be in the office on or before the deadline date.
  • The $30 does cover a partner or guest who is associated with your business, but they are also required to submit a registration form along with yours.
  • Make sure that you and your partner place each other names on the line provided on the lower right hand side of your form.
  • Make check or money order payable to "RRSBDC".
  • Mail to: RRSBDC, 121 University Blvd, Suite 130, Fredericksburg, VA 22406.
  • Please do not send cash. If you prefer to pay with cash, please come to the office during the following office hours: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Where: The seminar is held at the University of Mary Washington-Stafford Campus, 121 University Blvd, Fredericksburg, VA 22406, on the corner of Rte. 17 and Village Parkway, second floor in room 209. Map and directions

RRSBDC Warsaw's First Steps to starting a business Seminar

This Seminar will provide the basic of self evaluation, the idea, entrepreneurship, defining the need, determining the feasibility, and what actions are necessary. Topics within these areas will include analytical methods; research sources; the legal forms of businesses; record keeping; laws, regulations, and policies; and a discussion on the value and importance of business plans and financial analyses.
