LIAM J. CLEAVER ('92)
Program Director, Workforce Enablement
IBM Corporate Intranet
Liam Cleaver leads the Workforce Enablement team for IBM’s Corporate Intranet; delivering the right content and experience for employees to support revenue growth and to drive productivity and efficiency improvements.
His responsibilities include management of an extended, virtual team of over 250 content professionals around the globe for the world’s largest corporate intranet system (“w3”). He utilises this global network of content professionals to improve the quality of content delivered to employees and to manage the content that currently resides on w3. A recent initiative to address site proliferation identified hundreds of sites to eliminate in two business units with savings in the tens of millions of dollars for IBM. The other component of Liam’s team is the online, global collaboration medium known as “Jams.” Jams have quickly become an accepted approach to grappling with IBM-wide issues (e.g., ManagerJam, ConsultantJam and ValuesJam) providing all employees with a trusted way to share opinions with colleagues and executives alike.
Prior to joining the corporate team, Liam was a principal in IBM’s Business Consulting Services. His primary responsibility was the strategy and delivery of Corporate Intranet solutions to executive management of Global 100 companies. Liam’s last assignment was the successful launch of two separate portal initiatives, one tailored for Europe and the other for Asia Pacific, for a European-based financial services company. Both projects utilised synergies of global replication but remained flexible to local country and business unit requirements - resulting in rapid adoption/ integration across the enterprise.
Liam also spent several years at Andersen Business Consulting, where in his last role as global industry knowledge director he was responsible for leading a team from across multiple geographies and business units to develop an industry-focused Intranet as part of Andersen's global Corporate Intranet initiative. Prior to this role Liam was a client relationship manager in Andersen's Business Consulting unit leading client engagements in business transformation and organisational change, with a focus on the use of corporate intranets to impact change.
Liam speaks frequently with IBM clients on the transformational aspects of the intranet in large enterprises; other venues have included: The Conference Board’s “Reinventing the Way People Work”, Business Week’s “Corporate Breakthrough”, the World Bank, and a US Federal Government summit on “Intranets and e-government.”
Liam holds a graduate degree from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington). Liam also holds dual citizenship from the United States and the United Kingdom.
