As the Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Chirico has administrative responsibility for the areas of Athletics, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Life, and the student-run Honor System.
About Dr. Chirico . . .
Bernard Chirico received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been on the faculty at the University of Richmond, VCU, and the University of Mary Washington, was on the affiliate staff of Mary Washington Hospital, and has maintained a private psychotherapy practice. In 1991 Dr. Chirico became Director of the Psychological Services Center for UMW and in 1996 was named Vice President for Student Affairs.
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Chirico has taught seminars and workshops on the use of hypnosis and used hypnosis extensively in his practice to treat trauma victims, relieve pain, help in the healing of physical injuries, enhance study and memory skills, criminal work, and even delivered his son by hypnotizing his wife when she went into labor!
Dr. Chirico was born in Rochester, New York, and served in the U.S. Army.
