Lee Hall is the New Home for Student Services
Following a major expansion and complete makeover, Lee Hall began reopening in the spring of 2009. One of UMW’s most gracious and distinctive architectural features, Lee Hall has been a central focal point on the Fredericksburg campus since the 1920s. In its new incarnation, Lee Hall has been designed to provide convenient, high-quality services to students and the entire UMW community.
The building features a spacious new University Bookstore, a modern facility that is very strikingly attractive and highly functional. Traffic flow through Lee Hall has been enhanced by a beautiful new central stairway and energy efficiency and safety features have been greatly improved. At the same time, the tradition of the building has been respected and preserved. For example, the architectural character of the former Ballroom has been retained (original wood floors, high ceilings and beams, lighting fixtures, wainscoting, etc.); however, the space has been reconfigured to provide two meeting rooms and additional pre-function space to better serve the needs of the campus.
The Lee Hall move in, which began on March 23, will be ongoing throughout the spring semester as additional offices are occupied in late March and early May. The final area to open will be the Underground, which will be completed during the summer and will be open for students and the UMW community in the fall semester.
