Browser Problems

What Web browser do you recommend using to access Blackboard?

Although any java-enabled browser will probably work, we recommend Internet Explorer 6.x or Netscape 7.x if you are running a Microsoft Windows operating system.  If you are running a Apple Macintosh operating system use Internet Explorer 5.2 or Safari 1.0.  We've had some problems reported from individuals using other browsers that we've been unable to resolve. To download one of the browsers listed above click here.

When I'm using Blackboard and I click on a link within my course, the computer tells me I need a "plugin" and won't display the information. What does this mean?

There are a number of media types that can be used within Blackboard (PDF, Powerpoint, Flash, Quicktime), most of which require the appropriate plug-in for your browser.  A list of the most commonly used plug-ins to install on your browser is located here.  If you are having trouble viewing course-related information contact the Technology Assistance Center at 540.654.2255. You may also want to contact the instructor of the course and inform them of the problems.
