MAC OS 9
(NOTE: UMW no longer supports Mac OS 9. These directions are offered as a courtesy for those who may have older operating systems on their home computers.)
Step 1 - Go to the Apple menu and select "Control Panels > Modem." Use the Apple Menu to connect to the other control panels in Steps 3 - 4.

Step 2 - In the Modem control panel , choose the type of Modem you are using from the drop-down list. If yours isn't listed you'll need to find one that will work from the list (Hayes Compatible is the most common) or install yours from the disks that came with your modem.

Step 3 - In the TCP/IP control panel , choose "Connect Via PPP". Then Choose "Configure Using PPP Server." For Search domains, enter "mwc.edu." The Name server addresses are as follows:
- 199.111.95.11
- 199.111.95.12

Step 4 - In the Remote Access control panel , do the following to make your connection:
- Your Network User ID with the full login and context, WITHOUT the leading period.
- Your password (your Network Password , which may not be the same as your e-mail password)
- If it is possible that others will use your computer, do not have the computer remember your password. If you are the only one to use the computer you can save the step of typing your password each time you connect by checking the box next to "Save password."
- There are three numbers at UMW that you can configure your modem to dial. Each goes to a different bank of modems on campus for a connection. The numbers are 371-1600, 371-3686 and 371-3898 . Type one of these three into the "Number" space.
- Click the " Connect " button. After you are connected, this button then reads " Disconnect ." At that point, you may close or hide the control panel.
- Unhide or open the Remote Access Control Panel when you are done, and choose " Disconnect ."
