DOES UMW PROVIDE ME WITH A CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET?
Internet connectivity provided by the University differs on- and off-campus. In addition, Off-Campus Internet services differ depending on whether you are an employee, a returning student, or a new student. Details are provided below:
On-Campus
All computers at faculty and staff workstations, computer labs, the library, and residence hall rooms provide a high-speed connection to the Internet.
Off-Campus
Faculty and Staff
- Dial-Up: Faculty and Staff are provided with dial-up access to the Internet through the UMW Network. Once connected, the UMW Network may be accessed via FTP software. More about Connecting and FTP.
- Cable/DSL (Broadband): Faculty and Staff also have the option to use an alternate ISP, particularly if they seek a broadband connection such as cable or DSL. These broadband connections require the use of the UMW "VPN" to gain access to UMW servers and network resources. More about the VPN.
