Media Equipment Instructions – Chandler 102
To Lower and Raise the Projection Screen use the Up/Down controls located on the wall next to the screen:
To Project the Computer Image:
- Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the
button on the front of the computer - At the Log in screen:
To log into the NETWORK (if you need access to network drives H:, S: and all other assigned drives):
- At the log in screen, enter your long network username (for example: .tjones.dept.staff.mwc)
- Enter your network password
- Click OK
- At the next log in screen, be sure the username of "student" is entered
- LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
- Click OK
To log into the COMPUTER ONLY (no network drive access):
- At the log in screen, click the “Workstation Only” box
- Be sure the username is either “instructor” (Gives you administrator access)
- Enter instructor password for this room
- or “student” (Gives you user level access)
- LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
- Click OK
- Point the “NEC Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button
- The projector will take some time to warm up and display an image. You will know it has turned on when looking into the lens you’ll see a green circular light that will get stronger as the projector warms up. There is no need to push the power button again.
- On the “Projector ” remote, push the
button
- Volume is controlled by adjusting the knob on the desktop speakers or through the computer.
- If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
- Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
- In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window.
To Project a VHS tape:
- Turn on the VCR/DVD Player located in the lectern.
- Point the NEC Projector remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button
- The projector will take some time to warm up and display an image. You will know it has turned on when looking into the lens you’ll see a green circular light that will get stronger as the projector warms up. There is no need to push the power button again.
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button. You see “Video” in the upper left of screen - Insert the VHS tape into the VCR with the solid side of the tape case facing outward
- Make sure the DVD/VCR combo unit is set to VCR by pushing the DVD/VCR button on either the combo unit or the “Samsung” remote.
- Use the “Samsung” remote or the buttons on the VCR to control playback of the tape
- Volume is controlled by using the
UP and DOWN knob on the “Projector” remote.
Note: Computer does not need to be on to project from the VCR
To Project a DVD from computer:
- Turn on the computer and log in.
- Insert the DVD into the CD/DVD Drive on the computer (push button on side to open and close drive) shiny side down and then close drive tray.
- Point the NEC Projector remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button - The projector will take some time to warm up and display an image. You will know it has turned on when looking into the lens you’ll see a green circular light that will get stronger as the projector warms up. There is no need to push the power button again.
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button until you see “Computer” in the upper left of screen
- PowerDVD should launch automatically, if not
If you must choose how to launch the DVD, in the pop up window choose “Play DVD” using PowerDVD
If you need to manually launch the PowerDVD player:
- Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
- Click “All Programs”
- Click “PowerDVD” to launch the DVD player
- Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window
- To identify a button’s function, allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.
- Play, Pause and Stop buttons are located in the control panel
- To view the DVD image full screen allow the mouse to hover on teh movie image and the controls wil disappear
- While in the full screen mode simply move the mouse and the controls will reappear.
- Click on the large green "Back" button in the lower-leff of the screen to access the DVD menu and settings
- You can control the DVD volume by using the “Volume Control” in PowerDVD player

To Project a DVD from DVD Player:
- Turn on the VCR/DVD Player located in the lectern.
- Point the NEC Projector remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button - The projector will take some time to warm up and display an image. You will know it has turned on when looking into the lens you’ll see a green circular light that will get stronger as the projector warms up. There is no need to push the power button again.
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button. You will see “Video” in the upper left of screen - Make sure the DVD/VCR combo unit is set to DVD by pushing the DVD/VCR button on either the combo unit or the “Samsung” remote.
- Control playback of the DVD with the DVD remote or with the buttons on the front of the projector.
- When finished playing the DVD:
- Press the “Stop” button and then the “Eject” button on the front of the DVD player.
To Project a LaserDisc:
- Turn on the Pioneer LaserDisc Player in the Lectern.
- Press the
button in the top right corner of the player and insert your LaserDisc - Press the
button to close the tray - Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button - The projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button. - Use the “Pioneer” remote to control playback of the LaserDisc
- Volume is controlled by using the
UP and DOWN knob on the “Projector” remote. - When finished:
- Press the
button on the “Pioneer” remote - Press the
button and remove the LaserDisc from the tray
To Play an Audio CD:
- Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the
button on the front of the computer - Using the CD/DVD Drive on the computer, insert your CD
- On the pop up window, choose “Play Audio CD” using Windows Media Player
- Use the mouse to click on track choices.
- You can control the CD volume by:
- using the “Volume Control” in Windows Media Player
- When finished, close Windows Media Player and remove your CD.
After Every Class:
- To shut down the projector, point the “Projector” remote toward the projector and press the
button twice - Log off the computer – Do not shut it down
- Click on Start, Log off
- Click Log off again
- Return all remotes to the Lectern (desktop or keyboard tray)
- Close the Lectern.
