Media Equipment Instructions - Chandler 201
To Project the Computer Image:
- Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the
button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished) - At the Log in screen:
To log into the NETWORK (if you need access to network drives, H:, S: and all other assigned drives):
- At the log in screen, enter your username with the full context (for example: .tjonew.dept.staff.mwc)
- Enter your network password (as you use on your office computer)
- Click OK
- At the next log in screen, enter the appropriate Windows User Name:
- Enter the username of instructor in the user name field (Grants administrator access); enter the correct password for the room in the password field, or
- Enter the username of student (Grants user level access); LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
- Click OK
To log into the COMPUTER ONLY (no network drive access):
- At the log in screen, click the Workstation Only box.
- Enter the appropriate User Name and password.
- Enter the username of instructor in the User Name field (Grants administrator access); enter the correct password for the room in the password field, or
- Enter the username of student ; (Grants user level access) LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
- Click OK
- At the next log in screen, enter the appropriate Windows User Name:
- Enter the username of instructor in the User Name field (Grants administrator access); enter the correct password for the room in the password field, or
- Enter the username of student (Grants user level access); LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
- Be sure the slide switch located at the top right of the Projector remote is in the “On” position
- Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button - After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue screen for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
- On the “Projector ” remote, push the
button. You will see “Computer 1” on the screen - The volume is controlled by the
controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
- Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
- In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window.

To Project a Laptop Image:
- Using the cables on the top of the lectern, connect the VGA cable to the VGA jack on the back of your laptop.
- Connect the Network cable and audio cables, if needed.
- Turn on your laptop.
- On the “Projector ” remote, push the
button. - Change your video output by pressing the blue Fn key and another of the F-keys (Look for a blue picture on one of the F1- F12 keys that looks like a monitor and press it. If this doesn’t work, you will need to determine what the specific commands to do this are for your laptop)
Troubleshooting Tip: If your laptop image is not being projected, you may need to manually send a video signal to your laptop’s VGA jack. .
To project a VHS tape:
- Turn on the VCR located in the Lectern by pressing the
button on the VCR. - Set the channel selector to channel 1 to avoid projecting cable TV
- Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button - After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button until you see “Video” on the screen - Insert the VHS tape into the VCR with the solid side of the tape case facing outward
- Use the “VCR” remote or the buttons on the VCR to control playback of the tape
- Volume is controlled by using the
controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
Note: Computer does not need to be on to project from the VCR
To project a DVD from computer:
- Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the
button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished) - Using the CD/DVD Drive on the computer (push button on side to open and close drive) insert your disk (shiny side down) then close drive tray
- Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button - After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button. You will see “Computer 1” on the screen - PowerDVD should launch automatically, if not:
If you must choose how to launch the DVD, in the pop up window choose “Play DVD” using PowerDVD
If you need to manually launch the PowerDVD player:
- Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
- Click “All Programs”
- Click “PowerDVD” to launch the DVD player
- Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window
To identify a button’s function allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.
- “Play”, “Pause” and “Stop” buttons are located in the control panel
- To view the DVD image full screen allow the mouse to hover on the movie image and the controls will disappear.
- While in the full screen mode simply move the mouse and the controls will reappear.
- Click the large green “Back” button in the lower-left of the screen to access the DVD Menu and Settings.
- You can control the DVD volume by:
using the
controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
using the “Volume Control” in PowerDVD player

- When finished playing the DVD:
- Press the “Stop” button and then the “Eject” button in the control panel
- Close the PowerDVD player
To project a DVD from DVD PLAYER:
- Turn on the DVD player located in the Lectern by pressing the
button on the DVD player - Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the red
button - After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button. You will see “S-Video” in the screen - Insert the DVD into the DVD player with the shiny side down
- Use the DVD remote or the buttons on the DVD player to control playback of the DVD
- The volume is controlled by the VOLUME controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
- When done: Press “Stop” > “Eject” on the DVD player.
Note: Computer does not need to be on to project from the DVD Player
To Project Cable Television:
- Turn on the VCR located in the Lectern by pressing the
button on the VCR - Point the Projector remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the
button - After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
- On the Projector remote, push the
button - Use the VCR remote or the controls on the front of VCR to change channels
- The volume is controlled by the
controls on the Projector Remote
TO PLAY AN AUDIO CD:
- Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the
button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished) - Using the CD/DVD Drive on the computer (push button on side to open and close drive) insert your disk (shiny side down) then close drive tray
- Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the red
button - After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
- On the “Projector” remote, push the
button. You will see “Computer 1” in the upper left of screen - Windows Media Player should launch automatically. If not:
On the pop up window, choose “Play Audio CD using Windows Media Player":
- Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
- Click “All Programs”
- Click “Windows Media Player” to launch the DVD player
- Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window
- Use the mouse to click on track choices.
- You can control the CD volume by:
- using the
controls located on the bottom of the “Projector” remote - using the “Volume Control” in Windows Media Player
- using the computer volume control
- Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
- In the volume control window, adjust the “Volume Control” slider, and then close the window.
- When finished, close Windows Media Player and remove your CD.
AFTER EVERY CLASS:
- To shut down the projector, point the "Projector" remote toward the projector and press the red
button twice. - Log off the computer - Do not shut it down
- Click on "Start", then "Log Off"
- Click "Log Off" again
- Roll up the projection screen
- Return all remotes to the Lectern (desktop or keyboard tray)
