To Operate the Touch Screen

This classroom AV system uses a touch panel to control the equipment – generally you do not need to use the remote controls – everything can be done from the touch panel. However, it may be easier to use the DVD/VHS remote to navigate and control video playback from other locations in the room.

1. To begin using the presentation software, touch the screen on the Lectern
2. The touch screen should say “Welcome to Chandler Hall”
3. Touch “Press Here to Start”.

Note: Touchscreens and images sometimes become unsynchronized. You may need to touch the screen off center from the image.

computer imageTo project the computer image:


1. Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the power button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
2. Select AV Presentation from the touch screenBy selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.

3. Select the image of the “Computer” on the touch screen

  • You will see the computer monitor displayed on the touch screen
  • To enlarge the image to the full screen, simply touch the computer display image.

4. At the Log in screen:

• To log into the NETWORK (if you need access to network drives, H:, S: and all other assigned drives):

a. At the log in screen, enter you long network username (for example: .tjones.dept.staff.mwc )
b. Enter your network password (same as you use on your office computer)
c. Click OK
d. At the next log in screen, be sure the username of “student” is entered
e. LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
f. Click OK

• To log into the COMPUTER ONLY (no network drive access):

a. At the log in screen, click the “Workstation Only” box
b. Be sure the username is either “instructor” (Gives you administrator access)
c. Enter instructor password for this room
d. or “student” (Gives you user level access)
e. LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
f. Click OK

5. On the Crestron Touch Screen, touch the “Main PC” button.
6. Volume is controlled by the Crestron Touch Panel. On the Crestron Touch Panel, in the lower left corner of the screen are the volume controls for the AV system. Use the up or down buttons to change the level, and the mute button to stop all audio.

  • If you have the volume control up using the touch panel but are still not hearing any audio, on the computer, click the speaker icon located near the clock on the lower right corner of the Windows taskbar.
  • Be sure the computer volume is not muted, and raise or lower the volume as needed.

laptop imageTo project a Laptop Image:


1. Using the cables on the top of the podium, connect the VGA cable to the VGA jack on the back of your laptop.
2. Connect the Network cable and audio cables, if needed.
3. Turn on your laptop.
4. On the Crestron Touch Screen, touch the “Laptop” button.
5. Continue as in “To Project the Computer Image” above.

Troubleshooting Tip: If your laptop image is not being projected, you may need to manually send a video signal to your laptop’s VGA jack. This is usually done by pressing the blue FN (function) key on the laptop keyboard in combination with one of the F1-F12 keys on your keyboard. Look for a blue picture on one of the F1- F12 keys that looks like a monitor and press it. If this doesn’t work, you will need to determine what the specific commands to do this are for your laptop.

vhs imageTo project a VHS Tape:


1. Select AV Presentation from the touch screen
2. By selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.
3. Press the “ON” button on the VCR if not already on
4. On the Crestron Touch Screen, touch the image of the “VCR” on the touch screen
5. Insert the VHS tape into the VCR with the solid side of the tape case facing outward
6. Use the controls on the touch screen to control your VHS playback:

  • play, stop,pause, rewind and fast forward buttons handle the basics
  • NUMBER and ARROW Buttons – used to change the channel if needed.
  • pic mute– Sends a Black Screen to the projector
  • return symbolRETURN BUTTON – takes you back to the main touchscreen menu.

7. When you are finished, eject your VHS tape.

DVDTo project a DVD:


1. Select "AV Presentation" from the touch screen
2. By selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.
3. In the cabinet, press the DVD TRAY button on the DVD/VHS Combo Player
4. Place your disk on the tray and press the DVD TRAY button again to close
5. On the Crestron Touch Screen, touch the “DVD” button.
6. Use the controls on the touch screen to control your DVD:

  • menu button – will take you to the DVD menu
  • ARROW Buttons – will allow you to move around in the DVD menu
  • ok Button – press this to select an item on the DVD menu
  • Standard Playback Buttons – allow you to Play, Pause, Stop.
  • pic mute– Sends a Black Screen to the projector
  • return symbolRETURN BUTTON – takes you back to the main touchscreen menu.

down buttons to change the level, and the MUTE button to stop all audio.

a. If you have the volume control up using the touch panel but are still not hearing any audio, on the computer, click the speaker icon located near the clock on the lower right corner of the Windows taskbar. Be sure the computer volume is not muted, and raise or lower the volume as needed.

8. When you are finished, eject your DVD.

Note: Computer does not need to be on to project from the DVD Player

 

DVDTo project Region 2 (Non-American) DVDs from the Computer:


1. Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the power button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
2. Select AV Presentation from the touch screen

  • By selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.

3. Select the image of the computer on the touch screen

  • You will see the computer monitor displayed on the touch screen
  • To enlarge the image to the full screen, simply touch the computer display image.

4. If not already logged onto the computer,

5. At the Log in screen:
• To log into the NETWORK (if you need access to network drives, like the H: drive):

a. At the log in screen, enter you long network username (for example: .tjones.dept.staff.mwc )
b. Enter your network password
c. Click OK
d. At the next log in screen, enter the appropriate Windows Uswer Name:

  • Instructor(give you administrator access). Enter instructor password for this room
  • student (gives you user level access). LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK

e. Click OK

• To log into the COMPUTER ONLY (no network drive access):

f. At the log in screen, click the “Workstation Only” box

  • Enter the appropriate User Name:
    • Instructor(Gives you administrator access). Enter instructor passwerof for this room
    • student(gives you user level access) LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
  • Click OK

6. Insert your DVD into the computer’s CD/DVD drive
7. Windows Media Player should launch automatically, if not:

  • If you must choose how to launch the DVD, in the pop up window choose “Play DVD” using Windows Media Player
  • If you need to manually launch the Windows Media Player:
    a. Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
    b. Click “All Programs
    c. Click “Windows Media Player” to launch the DVD player
    d. Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window

8. To identify a buttons function allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.

a. “Play”, “Pause” and “Stop” buttons are located in lower-left of the screen
b. To view the DVD image full screen right click on the image and select “Full Screen”
c. While in the full screen mode simply moving the mouse brings up the control panel

10. When finished:

a. Stop movie and press the “Eject” button under CDROM/DVD tray

11. Close the Windows Media Player

 

elmo iconTo Project Document Camera Images:


1. On the left side of the cabinet, pull open the drawer that houses the document camera.
2. Push the small unlock button located at the base of the camera arm to release it.
3. Lift the camera arm into place
4. Lift the side lights into place
5. Turn on the Document Camera power using the power switch in the upper right corner of the document camera base.
6. Place your document on the flat base under the camera.
7. On the Crestron Touch Screen, touch the "Doc Cam" button.
8. Use the controls on the touch screen OR the controls on the front of the document camera:

a. "ZOOM" buttons – zoom the camera in or out – you can zoom in very closely to see fine details
b. "FOCUS" Buttons – adjust the focus of the camera (Hint: Adjust Zoom first, then focus)
c. "TOP LIGHTS" Button – press to turn on the top lights
d. "BASE LIGHTS" Button – turn on the base light (used for transparancies or 35mm slides)
e. "LIGHTS OFF" Button – turn off the lights
f. "AUTO FOCUS" Button – zoom in first, then use this button to automatically focus
g. "PIC MUTE" – Sends a Black Screen to the projector
h. "RETURN BUTTON" – takes you back to the main touchscreen menu.

9. When you are finished:

a. Power off the Document Camera
b. Fold down the lights
c. Fold down the camera head (use the small release button located at the base of the camera arm).
d. Close the drawer.

1. Log off the computer – Do not shut it down

a. Click on Start, Log off
b. Click Log off again

2. Shut down the system by touching the “EXIT” button located on the touchscreen, then touching the “YES Shutdown System” button.

a. The system will shut down.

3. Roll up projection screen
4. Return all remotes to the Lectern (desktop or keyboard tray)
5. Lock the Lectern using the combination locks provided
