Consult with your Department for the Combination to Lectern Locks

computer image  To project the computer image:

  1. Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the power button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
  2. At the Log in screen:
    • To log into the NETWORK (if you need access to network drives, H:, S: and all other assigned drives):
      • At the log in screen, enter you long network username (for example:  .tjones.dept.staff.mwc )
      • Enter your network password (same as you use on your office computer)
      • Click OK
      • At the next log in screen, be sure the username of “student” is entered
      • LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
      • Click OK
    • To log into the COMPUTER ONLY (no network drive access):
      • At the log in screen, click the “Workstation Only” box
      • Be sure the username is either “instructor” (Gives you administrator access)
        • Enter instructor password for this room
      • or “student” (Gives you user level access)
        • LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
      • Click OK
  3. Be sure the slide switch located at the top right of the Projector remote is in the “On” position
  4. Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the power button
  5. After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue screen for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
  6. On the “Projector” remote, push the comp1 button.  You will see “Computer 1” on upper left of screen
  7. The volume is controlled by the volume controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
    1. If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
      1. Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
      2. In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window

VHS  To project a VHS tape:

  1. Turn on the “DVD/VCR”  located in the Lectern by pressing the power button on the “DVD/VCR”  
  2. Point the  “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the red power button
  3. After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
  4. On the “Projector” remote, push the video button. You will see “Video” in the upper left of screen
  5. Insert the VHS tape into the DVD/VCR with the solid side of the tape case facing outward
  6. Use the “DVD/VCR” remote or the buttons on the DVD/VCR to control playback of the tape. If Green “VCR” light is not lit up on DVD/VCR display, press the “VCR/DVD” button once.
  7. The volume is controlled by the volume controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
    • If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
    • Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
    • In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window

Note: Computer does not need to be on to project from the VCR

DVD    To project a DVD Using dvd player:

  1. Turn on the “DVD/VCR”  located in the Lectern by pressing the power button on the “DVD/VCR”  
  2. Point the  “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the red power button
  3. After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
  4. On the “Projector” remote, push the video button. You will see “Video” in the upper left of screen
  5. Press the Open/Close button. Place the DVD into the DVD tray. Press the Open/Close button to close tray.
  6. Use the “DVD/VCR” remote or the buttons on the DVD/VCR to control playback of the disk. If Green “DVD” light is not lit up on DVD/VCR display, press the “VCR/DVD” button once.
  7. The volume is controlled by the volume controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
    • If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
      • Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
      • In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window

dvd imageTo project a DVD using computer:

  1. Turn on the computer by pushing the power button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
  2. Using the CD/DVD Drive on the computer (push button on side to open and close drive) insert your disk (shiny side down) then close drive tray
  3. Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the red power button
  4. After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
  5. On the “Projector” remote, push the comp1 button. You will see “Computer 1” in the upper left of screen
  6. PowerDVD should launch automatically, if not:
    • In the pop up window choose “Play DVD” using PowerDVD
    • If you need to manually launch the PowerDVD player:
      • Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
      • Click “All Programs”
      • Click “PowerDVD” to launch the DVD player
      • Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window
  7. To identify a button’s function allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.
    • “Play”, “Pause” and “Stop” buttons are located in the control panel
    • To view the DVD image full screen allow the mouse to hover on the movie image and the controls will disappear.
    • While in the full screen mode simply move the mouse and the controls will reappear.
    • Click the large green “Back” button in the lower-left of the screen to access the DVD Menu and Settings.
  8. The volume is controlled by the volume controls on the bottom of the “Projector” remote.
  9. If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
    • Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
    • In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window.
  10. When finished:
    • Stop movie and press the “Eject” button in the control panel
    • Close the PowerDVD player

If using Windows Media Player:

You may choose to start Windows Media Player manually:

  1. Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
  2. Click “All Programs”
  3. Click “Windows Media Player” to launch the DVD player
  4. Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window

To identify a buttons function allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.

    • “Play”, “Pause” and “Stop” buttons are located in the control panel
    • To view the DVD image full screen right click on the movie and select “Full Screen” from the menu
    • While in the full screen mode allow the mouse to hover over the movie image and the controls will disappear, they will reappear if you move your mouse

     

You can control the DVD volume by:

    • using the “Volume Control” slider in Windows Media Player player
    • using the Volume controls on the bottom of the "Projector" remote.
      • If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
      • Double click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
      • In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window
      • When finished:
      When finished:
      • Click on the Stop button
      • From the toolbar choose Play>Eject
      • Close the WIndows Media Player by clicking on the Red X in the upper right corner of the screen

WinDVD player:

  1. Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
  2. Click “All Programs”
  3. Click “WinDVD” to launch the DVD player
  4. Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window
    • To identify a button’s function allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.
    • Play, Pause and Stop buttons are located in the control panel
    • To view the DVD image full screen allow the mouse to hover on the movie image and the controls will disappear.
    • While in the full screen mode left click on the video to have controls reappear.
  5. You can control the DVD volume by:
    • Using the Volume control knobs on the desktop speakers
    • using the “Volume Control” in WinDVD
    • If no sound comes out of the speakers, make sure the volume is not muted on the computer:
      • Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
      • In the volume control window, adjust the Volume Control Slider, and then close the window.
  6. When finished playing the DVD:
    • Press the “Stop” button and then the “Eject” button in the control panel
    • Close the WinDVD player
    • Remove disc

 

 

Note: Computer does not need to be on to project from the DVD Player

CDTo play an audio CD:

  1. Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the power button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
  2. Using the CD/DVD Drive on the computer (push button on side to open and close drive) insert your disk (shiny side down) then close drive tray
  3. Point the “Projector” remote toward the ceiling mounted projector and press the red power button
  4. After a brief start up period, the projector will display a blue start up image for approximately 30 seconds while it is warming up.
  5. On the “Projector” remote, push the comp1 button. You will see “Computer 1” in the upper left of screen
  6. On the pop up window, choose “Play Audio CD” using Windows Media Player
    • If you need to manually launch the Windows Media Player player:
      • Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
      • Click “All Programs
      • Click “Windows Media Player” to launch the DVD player
      • Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window
  7. Use the mouse to click on track choices.
  8. You can control the CD volume by:
  9. using the volume controls located on the bottom of the “Projector” remote
  10. using the “Volume Control” in Windows Media Player
  11. using the computer volume control
    • Double Click the SPEAKER icon in the system tray. (The area at the bottom right of the screen where the time is located)
    • In the volume control window, adjust the “Volume Control” slider, and then close the window
  12. When finished, close Windows Media Player and remove your CD.

after class      After Every Class:

  1. To shut down the projector, point the “Projector” remote toward the projector and press the red power button twice
  2. Log off the computer – Do not shut it down
    • Click on Start, Log off
    • Click Log off again
  3. Roll up projection screen
  4. Return all remotes to the Lectern (desktop or keyboard tray)
  5. Lock the Lectern using the combination locks provided
