Touch screen To Operate the Touch Screen

All AV equipment is operated through the touch screen, which is located on the lectern.

We do not encourage manipulation of the controls on the AV Tower (large black box behind lectern) as all these controls have been carefully calibrated. However, if trouble-shooting, please check that the switches are in the “ON” position before calling the Help Desk. Best projection quality is obtained by keeping the lights directly above the screen – off.

  1. To begin using the presentation software, touch the screen on the Lectern

  2. The touch screen should say “Welcome to Combs Hall

  3. Touch “Press Here to Start

  4. Enter in the access code given to you by your department then press the green POWER


Note: Touch screens and images sometimes become unsynchronized. You may need to touch the screen off center from the image.

 

Computer Image To Project the Computer Image:

  1. Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the POWER button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
  2. Select AV Presentation from the touch screen
    • By selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.
  3. Touch the image of the computer
    • To enlarge the computer desktop’s display, simply touch the touch screen display
  4. At the Log in screen:
    • To log into the NETWORK (if you need access to network drives, H:, S: and all other assigned drives):
      1. At the log in screen, enter your username with the full context (for example: .tjones.dept.staff.mwc)
      2. Enter your network password (same as you use on your office computer)
      3. Click OK
      4. At the next log in screen, enter the appropriate Windows User Name:
        • Enter the username of Instructor in the User Name field; enter the correct password for the room in the password field, or
        • Enter the username of student; LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
      5. Click OK
    • To log into the COMPUTER ONLY (no network drive access):
      1. At the log in screen, click the Workstation Only box.
      2. Enter the appropriate User Name and password.
        • Enter the username of instructor in the User Name field (Gives you administrator access); enter the correct password for the room in the password field, or
        • Enter the username of student ; (Gives you user level access) LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
      3. Click OK
  5. The volume is controlled by the VOLUME controls on the Touch Panel
    • If, during the presentation, you should want to briefly stop projection of picture and/or sound
      1. Use the Volume Control Mute on the Touch Panel  to mute all audio from the system
      2. Use the Picture Mute to project a black screen
      3. The projector will still be on and ready for use when needed
  6. Touch the RETURN tab on the upper right of touch screen to return to the AV Control screen


VHS Image To Project a VHS Tape:

  1. Turn on the VCR located in the Lectern by pressing the POWER button on the VCR
  2. Select AV Presentation from the touch screen
    •  By selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.
  3. Touch the image of the VCR
  4. Insert the VHS tape into the VCR with the solid side of the tape case facing outward
  5. Use the VCR remote or the controls on the touch panel to control playback of the tape
  6. The volume is controlled by the VOLUME controls on the Touch Panel
  7. If, during the presentation, you should want to briefly stop projection of picture and/or sound
    • Use the Volume Control Mute on the Touch Panel  to mute all audio from the system
    • Use the Picture Mute to project a black screen
    • The projector will still be on and ready for use when needed
  8. Eject your tape using the button on the VCR

Note: Computer does not need to be on to project from the VCR

DVD Image Selecting a DVD Player and Projecting:

  1. Select AV Presentation tab from the touch screen
  2. By selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.
  3. Select which DVD player you will be using and press the “ON” button, if not already on.
    • The CD/DVD and CD/LCD players are used to play Region 1 (American DVDs)
    • Use the computer CD/DVD drive to play Region 1 or 2 DVDs. See directions below.
  4. Select the image of the appropriate “DVD Player” on the touch screen. (There are two DVD players and the computer, so be sure you are selecting the one that you will be using.)

 

DVD To Project a DVD From the Computer:

  1. Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the POWER button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
  2. Touch the image of the computer
  3. To enlarge the computer desktop’s display, simply touch the touch screen display
  4. At the Log in screen:
    • To log into the COMPUTER ONLY (no network drive access):
      • At the log in screen, click the Workstation Only box.
      • Enter the appropriate User Name and password.
        • Enter the username of instructor in the User Name field; enter the correct password for the room in the password field, or
        • Enter the username of student; LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK
      • Click OK
  5. Using the CD/DVD Drive on the computer (push button on side to open and close drive) insert your disk (shiny side down) then close drive tray
  6. The volume is controlled by the VOLUME controls on the Touch Panel (preferred) or by turning the “Volume” knob on the amplifier.
    • If, during the presentation, you should want to briefly stop projection of picture and/or sound
      1. Use the Volume Control Mute on the Touch Panel  to mute all audio from the system
      2. Use the Picture Mute to project a black screen
      3. The projector will still be on and ready for use when needed
  7. Windows Media Player should launch automatically, if not:
    • Click on Start in the lower-left corner of computer screen
    • Click All Programs
    • Click Windows Media Player to launch the DVD player
    • Press the Play button in the lower-left corner of the window
  8. To identify a button’s function, allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.
    • Play, Pause and Stop buttons are located in the control panel
  9. To view the DVD image full screen, from the tool bar choose View > Full Screen or press ALT + Enter on the keyboard
    • While in the full screen mode simply move the mouse and the controls will reappear.
  10. When finished playing the DVD:
    • Press the Stop button and then the Eject button in the control panel
    • Close the Windows Media Player
  11. To use CyberLink’s PowerDVD instead of Windows Media Player:
    • Manually launch CyberLink’s PowerDVD
      1. Click on Start in the lower-left corner of computer screen
      2. Click All Programs
      3. Click PowerDVD to launch the DVD player
      4. Press the Play button in the lower-left corner of the window
      • To identify a button’s function, allow your mouse to hover over the button and its function tip will appear. Use the mouse to click on DVD controls.
        1. Play, Pause and Stop buttons are located in the control panel
      • To view the DVD image full screen allow the mouse to hover on the movie image and the controls will disappear.
        1. While in the full screen mode simply move the mouse and the controls will reappear.
      • Click the large green Back button in the lower-left of the screen to access the PowerDVD Menu and Settings.

DVD CD To Project a DVD or CD From the DVD/CD Player:

  1. Touch the image of the DVD/CD Player
    • To enlarge the display, simply touch the touch screen display
  2. Insert your disk (shiny side down)into the DVD/CD Drive inside the lectern (push button on side to open and close drive then close drive tray)
  3. Use the controls on the touch panel to control playback of the Disk
    • Use the four directional arrow to navigate the menu
    • Use the up /down arrows to navigate DVD chapters
  4. The volume is controlled by the VOLUME controls on the Touch Panel
    • If, during the presentation, you should want to briefly stop projection of picture and/or sound:
      1. Use the Volume Control Mute on the Touch Panel  to mute all audio from the system
      2. Use the Picture Mute to project a black screen
      3. The projector will still be on and ready for use when needed

DVD To Project a DVD, or Laser Disc From the DVD/LD Player:

  1. Select AV Presentation tab from the touch screen
    • By selecting AV Presentation, the projector will automatically turn on. No remote is needed.
  2. Touch the image of the DVD/LaserDisc Player
    • To enlarge the DVD’s display, simply touch the touch screen display
  3. Insert your disk (shiny side down)into the Disk Drive inside the lectern (push button on side to open and close drive then close drive tray)
  4. Use the controls on the touch panel to control playback of the Disk
    • Use the four directional arrow to navigate the menu
    • Use the up /down arrows to navigate Disk chapters
  5. The volume is controlled by the VOLUME controls on the Touch Panel
    • If, during the presentation, you should want to briefly stop projection of picture and/or sound:
      1. Use the Volume Control Mute on the Touch Panel  to mute all audio from the system
      2. Use the Picture Mute to project a black screen
      3. The projector will still be on and ready for use when neede

To play an audio CD:

  1. Turn on the computer in the Lectern by pushing the POWER button on the front of the computer (Please leave the computer on when finished)
  2. Using the CD/DVD Drive on the computer (push button on side to open and close drive) insert your disk (shiny side down) then close drive tray
  3. On the pop up window, choose “Play Audio CD” using Windows Media Player
    • If you need to manually launch the Windows Media Player:
      1. Click on “Start” in the lower-left corner of computer screen
      2. Click “All Programs
      3. Click “Windows Media Player” to launch the DVD player
      4. Press the “Play” button in the lower-left corner of the window
  4. Use the mouse to click on track choices.
  5. The volume is controlled by the VOLUME controls on the Touch Panel
  6. When finished, close Windows Media Player and remove your CD.
    • Push the button on the side of the CD/DVD Drive
    • From the menu bar choose Play > Eject

Slide Projection To Project a Slide Presentation:

  1. Place slide carousel on the projector
  2. Select Slide Presentation Tab from the touch screen on the lectern
  3. Touch the POWER button – Projector will turn on.
    • If the data project or is on press Video Projector Off
  4. Use the Next -> and Previous <- to control the next slide to be shown
  5. When done, touch the POWER button to shutdown the projector

 

AFTER EVERY CLASS After Every Class:

  1. Log off the computer – Do not shut it down
    • Click on Start, Log off
    • Click Log off again
  2. Roll up projection screen
  3. Touch Exit System Tab
    • Touch System Off  button
  4. Return all remotes to the Lectern (desktop or keyboard tray)
