About Tablet PCs
If you are purchasing a laptop, you may want to consider a tablet PC. Studies suggest that tablet PCs are the next wave in personal computing. See the Microsoft Web site for a listing of the top tablet PC benefits.
In the Spring of 2004, the University of Mary Washington Division of Teaching and Learning Technologies ran a pilot project using Toshiba M200 Portege Tablet PCs in both classroom and library settings. Our initial findings suggest that this new technology, especially when used with the Microsoft OneNote application, brings a huge increase in computing ease, flexibility, and power for students, faculty and staff. Because Tablet PCs are a relatively new technology, they cost somewhat more than ordinary laptops, but if you are buying a laptop computer you should at least consider the purchase of a tablet PC.
You can find Toshiba Tablet PCs online at Richards Computers. Tablet PCs are also available from several other manufacturers, including Hewlett-Packard/Compaq, Gateway, Fujitsu and Acer. As with ordinary laptops, we recommend you purchase a three- or four-year warranty along with an accident protection plan.
