University Portal: One U
OneU is the name of our University portal, which was launched as a pilot in Fall 2005. OneU will enable us to tailor Web content to a person's specific role on campus. It will also enable internal communications to be more tailored, and therefore more efficient. Tired of being the recipient of an "allstudents" or "allemployees" e-mail? You're not alone. And the OneU portal, signifying that we are One University, and there is only "One You", will send you individualized content, announcements, documents, and messages that you are most likely to want to see, filtering out internal spam and clutter.
The portal will provide customized Web content based on your role at the institution. Since it will be integrated with our Banner administrative systems, it will know your role based on information already in our systems. If you are a student, you get student-only information, etc. In addition, it allows users to set up and join special interest groups based on the topics of their choice. When fully launched, the portal will provide far more efficient targeted communications and greatly enrich the online community-building environment at the University.
Many colleges and Universities have launched portals in recent years. The portal technology we have chosen is based on the uPortal infrastructure, and comprises an enhanced uPortal application made by Sungard Higher Education called Luminis.
