Banner Online Resources
Getting Started
Banner uses a web browser (for example Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). Access is available only to authorized users with a valid user ID and password. There are other settings / configurations of your computer that will make using Banner easier for you. This section will help you access Banner or know what you need to do to get started or if you’re having problems.
interface
Banner operates through a familiar web-based interface which will enable you to perform your job role duties comfortably and efficiently. This section will describe the various items and their functionality that you will interface with while navigating throughout Banner 7.
Main Menu
The first screen that you will encounter after logging in to Banner 7 is the Main Menu. This screen provides access to a list of Banner 7 menus, forms, jobs, and QuickFlows.
forms
Forms are the critical elements in Banner 7. Through forms all information is entered, maintained, edited, and queried. They are visually organized to allow for ease of data entry and readability, and are displayed in a standard design similar to paper forms. Each form has a unique name that distinguishes it from other Banner 7 forms. It also has its own security parameters and monitoring techniques. Information entered into one form, may also be used by other forms, reports, and jobs.
entering & querying data
You may enter data into a field in a variety of ways, depending on the definition of the field. Some fields allow you to enter data freely, while other fields have constraints on the type of data allowed on the type of data allowed. It is important to note that entering and querying data are grouped together in this manual because ENTERING data should not be done without first querying (searching) the data base to make sure that the information that you’re about enter isn’t already there.
reporting
There is a wealth of data available to you (depending on your permissions) in Banner. Generating reports – getting the information out in a meaningful format – can be both a time consuming as well as rewarding endeavor. There are a number of reporting tools available to you.
customization
Customizing My Banner, your personal folder, will help you work more efficiently, giving you quick access to all of the Banner objects that you use most often in your job.
using Self-service Banner (Banner SSB)
Banner SSB provides functionality for users with a lower degree of security than Banner INB. This section provides a reference for Self-Service Banner (Banner SSB) users.
