  • The initial policy statement on the Workplace Harassment leaflet (the smallest one) contains information from the State's Workplace Harassment policy, but does not include information from UMW's Statement of Non-Discrimination, as it should. Reprints have been corrected and issued to new employees effective June 2006. The UMW Non-Discrimination policy statement is as follows:

April 29 , 2005 Each employee must be educated on Workplace Violence, Workplace Harassment, Sexual Harassment, and the Grievance Process (only for full-time employees). Read through the "Respectful Workplace" informational packets and click on the link above to verify that you have completed this requirement.  This website verification needs to be done no later than April 29 , 2005.
June 30, 2006 Each employee must be trained on Workplace Violence Prevention.

You have two options to fulfill this requirement:

1. View the course through the computer, by clicking on the icon marked "Workplace Violenc Course" above.

2. Register to attend one of the courses offered quarterly by clicking on the below link.

UMW - Current Courses

On-going All UMW employees are required to be trained on Workplace Safety issues.  New employees should attend a New Employee Safety Orientation during the first 90 days of employment. Some positions will require further training and certification with regard to job duties and functions.

Safety Orientation Classes are held on the following dates at 9:00 am in Chandler Hall, Room 102.  New employees should attend the class on the date closest to when they were hired.

4th Wednesday in August

4th Wednesday in April

Supervisor Required Training

April 29 , 2005 Supervisors should ensure that all employees in their area are educated on Workplace Violence, Workplace Harassment, Sexual Harassment, and the Grievance Process (the Grievance Process is only for full-time employees). Each supervisor will receive informational packets for each employee in their area.  The Supervisor must ensure that each employee reads the material and verifies completion online before April 29, 2005.
June 30, 2006 Supervisors should ensure that all employees are trained on Workplace Violence Prevention.

Each employee will receive a letter explaining this requirement.  Supervisors will receive a notification by email each time one of their employees completes this training course.  As the deadline nears, supervisors will be sent a list of employees in their area who have not completed training.

January 2006 Each supervisor must attend a two hour course that emcompasses all four respectful workplace subjects (Workplace Violence, Workplace Harassment, Sexual Harassment, and the Grievance Process)
