Formatting Cells: Apply Borders

To distinguish among different data in a worksheet, you can apply borders to cells, shade cells with a background color, or shade cells with a color pattern. As with other types of formatting, cell borders may be applied to all or part of your spreadsheet.

The Border tab offers the following formatting options:

Presets Apply borders that are previously established in Excel. You can either apply borders or remove borders from selected cells.
Border Apply borders that can be customized according to the selected option.
Line style Specify the line size and style for a border.
Color Define a specific color for the border.

To define a border for a cell(s):

Format Cells Drop Down Menu

  1. Select the cell(s) to configure.
  2. Select Format located on the menu bar.
  3. Choose Cell.
  4. Click on the Border tab.
  5. Make the appropriate changes (color, size, and style of cell border).

Click OK.

You may also use the Borders icon Borders Iconon the Formatting toolbar to apply a border to a cell.
