Adding Sections

Section links appear on the left-hand side navigation bar (the primary navigation center) on a webpage.

  • Login to the Contribute Site Management Tools page (click here to go to the tutorial on how to access the Site Management Tools).

  • In the My Departments listing, find the appropriate department and click on Site Structure.

  • Once you have reached the Site Management Tools page, under the green plus sign, click on Add a New Section.

  • The page that appears is the visual representation of the site structure. Navigate to where you want to add the section and click.

  • Now you have to enter in your section information.

    • Filename – the name of the folder or file

    • Title – the name to display on menus and breadcrumbs

    • Main Description – brief summary of what is in this new section

    • Keywords – words you would search for if you were doing a Google search

    • Page Type – Fixed Width Department Breadcrumb, Department Sidenav, or Sidenav with Editable Right, small

    • Active Setting – choose whether to have the page active or inactive

    • Harvest Content From – location from which any information is gathered

    • Include in A-Z Index? – yes or no

    • A-Z Index Description – description if section is included in the index

    • A-Z Index Aliases – title and short description

  • Click Submit.

  • Contribute will ask you one final question, and that is where you want the link for this new section to be located among the rest of the sections on the page.

  • Once you know where you want to put the link, click Put Link in Position [#].

  • Contribute will then bring you back to the Site Management Tools main interface.

  • You should now be able to go to the webpage where you have placed the link. One way to do this is to click on the name of the site in the upper right-hand corner of your Contribute window.
