GARI MELCHERS HOME AND STUDIO TO HOST CHARLOTTESVILLE AUTHOR, FEB. 3
Fredericksburg, Va. – Gari Melchers Home and Studio will host an evening with award-winning writer and photo editor Donna M. Lucey as she tells the story of her latest book, Archie and Amélie: Love & Madness in the Gilded Age, on Saturday, February 3 at 7 p.m. in the Studio Pavilion.
The Charlottesville author will share the true Gilded Age story of the turbulent marriage and life of the wealthy John Armstrong Chanler, great-great-grandson and heir of John Jacob Astor, and the charming Amélie Rivas, a Virginia writer and goddaughter of Robert E. Lee. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and an elegant buffet dinner accompanied by Virginia and New York wines. The evening will conclude with Lucey signing copies of her book.
The cost is $45 per person for members of Friends of Belmont and $55 for non-members. Reservations are due by January 29.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio is a 27-acre estate and former residence of the artist Gari Melchers and his wife Corinne. The property, which is part of the University of Mary Washington, is both a Virginia Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark. Located at 224 Washington St. in Falmouth, Va., a quarter mile west of the intersection of U.S. 1 and U.S. 17, it is open daily with an admission charge. The museum Web site is www.GariMelchers.org.
