ROSARIAN TO PRESENT “A YEAR OF ROSES” AT GARI MELCHERS HOME AND STUDIO, MAY 26
Fredericksburg, Va. – Author and rosarian Stephen Scanniello, president of the Heritage Rose Foundation, will present an afternoon talk followed by a wine and cheese reception at Gari Melchers Home and Studio on Saturday, May 26, from 3 to 5 p.m.
The cost of the workshop is $35 for members of Friends of Belmont and $50 for non-members.
Attendees are invited to bring old roses for identification by Scanniello, who is the author of A Year of Roses. After a short workshop, Scanniello will share his years of experience growing roses, as well as tips on how to mix roses, perennials, herbs and annuals in a pleasing garden setting. He also will discuss rose preservation and tales of “rose rustling” in Virginia and along the East Coast.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont is a 26-acre estate and former residence of the American figure painter Gari Melchers and his wife Corinne. The property, which is part of the University of Mary Washington, is both a Virginia Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark. Located at 224 Washington St. in Falmouth, Va., a quarter mile west of the intersection of U.S. 1 and U.S. 17, it is open daily with an admission charge.
