UMW WIND AND PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE TO HOLD FALL CONCERT, NOV. 18
Fredericksburg, Va. – University of Mary Washington’s Wind and Percussion Ensemble will present “A Holidays Concert,” featuring music from several holidays, on Friday, November 18. The program will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in George Washington Hall, Dodd Auditorium.
The concert is open to the public, and the ensemble requests that guests bring a donation of one non-perishable food item for the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. Last year, the ensemble collected almost 1,000 pounds of food for this organization.
The concert will feature music for Halloween, All Saints’ Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas and New Year’s. The ensemble, under the direction of Craig Thomas Naylor, assistant professor of music, will perform a variety of works, including “Variants on a Mediaeval Tune,” “Eighth Candle” and “Old Churches.” Halloween will be celebrated with a work played completely in the dark with special lighting effects, and the uplifting “Imani” will represent Kwanzaa. The ensemble also will play Radford composer and educator Mark Camphouse’s “Canzon, Fugato and Hymn,” as well as Morten Lauridsen’s “O, Magnum, Mysterium,” as arranged by Robert Reynolds. The Small Ensemble will perform Richard Strauss’s “Serenade for Winds.” The program will close with a selection of tunes by Ray Charles.
