UMW’S COLLEGE OF GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES TO HOLD INFORMATION SESSION IN NEW BUILDING, JAN. 17
Fredericksburg, Va. – Adults interested in completing a bachelor’s degree or earning a graduate degree are invited to an evening information session Wednesday, January 17 in the new academic building at the University of Mary Washington’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CGPS).
The information session also will provide prospective students with information about the teacher licensure program, professional certificate courses and technology training at CGPS in Stafford County. In addition, individuals can schedule one-on-one counseling with advisors for future dates.
Those attending the session will receive a waiver of the $45 application fee. The session will be held in first-floor classrooms of the building that was recently completed at CGPS, which is located on Route 17 three miles north of Interstate 95 exit 133. Light refreshments will be served.
The session will be divided into three segments. The 5 p.m. portion will focus on the Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Initial Teacher Licensure programs. The 6 p.m. segment will cover undergraduate degree-completion programs – the Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) for evening adult students and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) for daytime adult students. The 7 p.m. portion will cover the Master of Business Administration (MBA), the new Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MSMIS) and the new MBA-MSMIS dual degree program.
The BPS program offers five concentrations: accounting, computer information systems, interdisciplinary studies, leadership and management, and network security.
The M.Ed. program provides two avenues of study. For individuals who want to obtain teaching credentials, the Post-Baccalaureate Initial Teacher Licensure program offers five areas of endorsement: elementary education, middle education, secondary education, PreK-12 education, and K-12 special education.
For licensed, practicing teachers seeking added endorsement or professional development, there are seven core M.Ed. programs to choose from: diverse student populations, educational leadership, English as a second language, instructional technology leadership, literacy specialist, secondary mathematics and special education.
The MBA program offers nine concentrations: accounting, contracts and procurement management, general management, information security, management technology, organization and human resource development, project management, public administration, and risk management and insurance.
The new MSMIS degree will provide technical and managerial knowledge and skills to prepare individuals for careers as managers of complex information systems and computing resources. The new MBA-MSMIS program will combine two graduate degrees to allow students to explore careers in two distinct fields. Students earning the dual degree will gain technical skills, as well as management and leadership knowledge.
Classes will be held for the first time in the second CGPS building beginning Monday, January 15. The two-story, 42,612-square-foot structure is designed to accommodate continued growth in enrollment and programs at the Stafford campus. The nonresidential campus offers academic programs in the evenings and on weekends to allow working adults to pursue degrees and certificates on a part-time basis.
