UMW Tuition Promise – Our commitment to Virginia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our UMW Tuition Promise is our commitment to Virginia. At UMW, we believe college should be within reach for everyone. That’s why we ensure that financial barriers won\u2019t stop you from succeeding. While 100% of full-time first-year students receive some form of scholarship and financial aid, if you’re a Virginia resident with a family income under $100,000, you may be Pell-eligible \u2013 meaning your tuition may be covered through our UMW Tuition Promise<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMW proudly offers the UMW Tuition Promise. This program supports both first-year and transfer students who are eligible to receive a Pell grant, a federal assistance initiative that does not need to be repaid, covering tuition for Pell-eligible Virginia students starting in the 2025-26 academic year. This ensures that financial challenges won\u2019t hinder their educational journey, with additional support available for short-term emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Apply to UMW for free<\/strong> by using code UMWPELL on the CommonApp<\/a>. Transfer applicants should use the free UMW transfer application<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Review your family\u2019s prior year Federal Income Tax Return<\/strong> to see if you\u2019re Pell-eligible and qualify for the UMW Tuition Promise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Submit your FAFSA,<\/strong> and be sure to list the University of Mary Washington, use code 003746.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Once accepted,<\/strong> you\u2019ll receive a personalized financial aid package that outlines your scholarships and aid. If you\u2019re Pell-eligible, we\u2019ll cover the rest of your tuition to eliminate financial gaps.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
